Shaun White crash at Winter X Games 2010
Shaun White emerged a champ, but it's his rather spectacular trick gone wrong that's creating buzz.The snowboarder took home the superpipe gold medal at the Winter X Games on Friday (Jan. 29), but he almost didn't make it after he had missed landing the Double McTwist 1260, smacking his face against the halfpipe during a practice run earlier in the evening.
In the video you can see his neck snap back and his helmet fly off his head.
The Double McTwist 1260 is no simple feat: After launching himself 15-20 feet in the air above the halfpipe, White executes two flips and three-and-a-half rotations before landing. That last part, the landing, is kind of important.

Ouch.
White, aka "The Flying Tomato," was obviously shaken, and an abrasion could be seen on his left cheek, but he went right back out and finished in first place. We hope he gets checked out by a doctor and gets plenty of rest.
After all, the Olympics are only a couple weeks away, airing on NBC from Feb. 12-28.

Thank god he's alright. That would have been terrible if something had happened to him. He seems like a nice young man.
Shawn is an amazing snowboarder and seems to be a good person too. I'm glad he won the gold, and that he is ok!

Too bad he didn't split his head open. He didn't deserve the gold. His second and third runs friday night sucked. Judges are bias. He only got the gold because of his name.

Jackie- I think you meant "Sniper" not Jeff- yes, Sniper is a sick person-perhaps he did hit his head on something. I hope so, he needs an excuse for his hateful comments. Shawn is the champ and I hope that he doesn't have any long term effects from that smack! Hurts to watch! Anyone know how the poor kid in Utah is doing?
Did you not notice how shawn gets 23' of air while the rest of the field barely gets 15' of air? Yeah i think he deserves gold, because even when he has a crappy run he blows the competition away
