'Secret Life of the American Teenager,' 'Make It or Break It' return with record ratings
The success of ABC Family's "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" is no fluke. Premiering the back half of its second season to 4.5 million viewers on Monday (Jan. 4) -- 2.12 million were adults between the ages of 18 to 49 and 3 million between 12 to 34 -- "Secret Life"'s return is now cable's No. 1 scripted premiere of the '09-'10 season in key demos, beating the debuts of TNT's Ray Romano series "Men of a Certain Age" (2.08 million, 18-49) and FX's "Nip/Tuck" (1.90 million, 18-49).
More good news for the network came as "Secret Life"'s lead-out "Make It or Break It" started the second half of its first season with 2.7 million tuning in (1.2 million adults 18 to 49, 1.7 million 12 to 34) at 9 o'clock.
To put this in perspective, there are more people on average watching "Make It or Break It" than "Gossip Girl" or "90210," and "Secret Life" is pulling numbers those CW shows would cut someone for.
Any thoughts on why that is?

The CW, except for Smallville and Supernatural.. is an extremely pathetic network! Rehashing old shows to get an audience isn't the way to go! Originality is something they should go for.. Trashy tv isn't appealing!

Aack! I got a new DVR and forgot about Secret Life. That is my new Baywatch. Its horrible acting and there's more sex on that show than on any CW show, but its on a "Family" channel, so its a success. And, I can't turn away. Go figure.
It has nothing to do with the rehashing of shows, ABC does better promotions and ads, CW isn't there yet. Secret Life & ABC have been advertising it's return even gave full season marathons to hype it's return to new audiences, CW hasn't and doesn't do that. It's that simple.
Skip Day was awesome fun! What I love about The Secret Life is that they so totally embrace their brand of campiness. One stretch of the show will revel in naivety while the next smacks you in the face with frank discussions about sex of all kinds, teen pregnancy, and the gamit of high school drama. That's all mixed with corny jokes, even cornier dialog at times, and some of the most bizarre background relationships material ever peresented on tv; like the "Sausage King" who's in love with a hooker; the street tough kid, Ricky, who was raped by his dad and is now a sex addict, the gay kid that doesn't act ike any gay kid I've ever seen in school, the Christian couple that struggles to remain faithful until marriage, etc. And to top that off we can't forget all the cliched high school kids that are played to the hilt, the forever sidekicks that desperately want boyfriends, the snitch who knows everyone's business and uses it for leverage at school, the school slut who openly sleeps with the sex addict in her parents home, the guidance counselor with questionable credentials, etc. The premiere was really too delicious!!!
The Secret Life is intriguing and it's addictive, I do enjoy it. But Make It or Break It is a hit, plain and simple. If you havent' watched yet you should.
It's amazing because the Sec Life writing and acting are so horribly bad, but it's so addictive. I scoff and make fun as I watch, but my sister and I are both hooked and we're in our 20s.
Haven't gotten into MIoBI.
secret life is the worst show ever produced, the acting and writing is the worst ive ever seen in my 30 years of life. this season 90210 deserves those ratings the performances and writing has been outstanding way above its first season and secret life

MAKE IT OR BREAK IT is SOOOOOOOOOOO much better than Secret Life you guys (that don't watch the show yet) should really know that!! TRUST ME it's SOO good. It's become my favorite show since I first seen it - last summer. Seriously you have to go to hulu.com and watch all of the episodes!!!!!!!!!!!! There's also this couple on the show (Damon & Emily) and they are just so adorable together. Search them up on youtube if you want to see how amazing the two of them are together.... and watch the show!!!! :) Secret life is stupid but MIOBI rocks.....i NEVER tune in @ 8pm to watch that show. Watch Make It or Break It @ 9 always
