'Pregnancy Pact' gives Lifetime ratings baby bump

pregnancy-pact-320.jpgIt's not just teens that are drawn to a pregnancy pact.

Lifetime's debut of the original movie "The Pregnancy Pact" on Saturday, Jan. 23 became basic cable's most-watched film among women 18-34 since 1998. It earned a 4.2 rating in households, attracting 5.9 million total viewers.

The film centers on a rise in teen pregnancy in a small town, which alerts a reporter (Thora Birch) enough to investigate and discover that maybe the buns in the oven were deliberately planned. Camryn Manheim and Nancy Travis also star in the film.

"Pregnancy Pact" got a 4.3 rating among women 18-49, a 4.8 among women 18-34, a 3.7 among women 25-54 and a 3.65 among women 18 and over.

Overall, the movie was good for Lifetime, ranking in as the fourth-highest rated film among women 18-49 in the network's history. It's the second-highest rated original film premiere for Lifetime ever in the women's and adult 18-34 demos.

"Pregnancy Pact" is loosely based on a true story about a group of pregnant teens in Massachusetts' Gloucester High School.

i thought that it was a great movie that showed teens that its not "cool" to get pregnant. i am 16 myself and cannot imagine being pregnant and changing my life like that. i also believe that it gave families something to talk about and a change to express their veiws on teen pregnancy. it taught teens how impractical it is to become pregnant. lifeitme did a fantastic job at portraying this movie

What's equally impressive about the ratings performance is that this movie aired on Saturday night.

It just goes to show that with the right show and the right topic at the right time, a show airing on Saturday night will get ratings!

Hint hint, broadcast networks...

I think the story could have presented teens that find other things to do besides drink alcohol and get pregnant. Where are the athletes, the scholars, the Christians, all the students striving to do something important with their lives.

Who gives a ****?

Where are the ratings for this night's other shows?

Oops! Too busy watching mindless Lifetime movie and forgot about the rest?

@Hahn: The movie did really well, so I take no issue with the tenor of your article, :) but it is high-time that irrelevant nonsense like "basic cable's most-watched film among women 18-34 since 1998" be consigned to the trash bin.

That "distinction" and four buck will get you a frappuccino. It is entirely irrelevant to ad sales or anything else, even if it justifies the salary of the PR people who dug it up (and the journalists who no doubt didn't check if it was accurate ;) )

Its just sad that they failed to talk about the fact that 6 of those girls had either an abortion or miscariage 1 of the babies died and one of the girls is in fostor care w her baby now
