'Parks and Recreation' renewed for a third season

amyp.jpgThe "Parks and Recreation" department of Pawnee, Indiana is staying in business.

NBC's sophomore comedy starring Amy Poehler has been renewed for a third season, reports The Wrap.

Though "Parks and Rec" is not a ratings giant -- averaging around 5 million viewers each week -- it has become a critical favorite as it's flourished creatively.

NBC execs Jeff Gaspin and Angela Bromstad are reportedly both fans.

Zap2it is too.

Congrats, "P&R"!

Another reason why NBC will not be #1 (or even #2 or #3) for a long time: renewing proven losers like "Parks & Rec"!

This is tough. I LOVE the show and the sarcastic humor, but it does bomb in the ratings. I wish it would get some real critical acclaim, like some award noms. I think it's far better than The Office or 30 Rock.

JoJo, 5 million viewers isn't exactly a true "proven loser"... it's just very average (but on the lower side) for network TV. "Seinfeld" did poorly its first year or two, in today's world where networks are usually quick to cancel, even it would've been gone.

Community > Park and Rec.

I hope the community renewal is right around the corner.

SO since CHUCK is averaging 7 million viewers and is a critical and viewer favorite it will be back as well.

Anyone who calls this show garbage obviously does not watch it. it has surpassed the office and 30 rock this year, it is consistently hilarious.

This is a well deserved renewal. They're having a great second season and the 7 main cast members are all excellent. Except for Modern Family and still occasionally The Office, this is the funniest sitcom on TV.

The show posts great numbers in the 18-49 age group/. This is all networks really care about, especially in the ad biz. NBC has no choice than to renew great shows that post so-so ratings than spend cash on a new potential stinker.

I guess NBC thinks "If you got nothin', you got nothin' to lose"? J.O.K.E.

If this can get renewed there is hope for "Mercy". So, yay :)
