MTV's Haiti telethon expands to other networks

george-clooney-getty-320.jpgThe telethon organized by MTV networks for earthquake relief in Haiti is expanding to several other cable outlets and all the broadcast networks.

The telethon, called "Hope for Haiti," will air live at 8 p.m. ET/5 PT on Friday, Jan. 22. In addition to MTV, VH1 and CMT, the special will also air on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, CNN, HBO and BET. MTV, CNN and National Geographic will also broadcast the telethon worldwide through their international channels, MTV announced Friday (Jan. 15).

George Clooney is among the organizers of the telethon, which will raise money for relief for the Haitian people -- as much as a third of the country's population -- affected by this week's massive earthquake. MTV says CNN anchor Anderson Cooper will provide insight from Haiti, while Clooney will be in Los Angeles, and Wyclef Jean will be in New York. MTV says the telethon will also include musical performances, news stories and other celebrity appearances.

Joel Gallen, who produced similar specials after 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina, will perform the same duties on "Hope for Haiti."

Proceeds from the telethon will benefit Oxfam America, Partners in Health, the Red Cross, UNICEF and the Yele Haiti Foundation.

Did you see what Danny Glover had to say, Zap2it?

http://blogs.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/timblair/index.php/dailytelegraph/comments/pact_with_gaia/

Says Glover: “When we see what we did at the climate summit in Copenhagen, this is the response, this is what happens, you know what I’m sayin’?”

Er, no. Anthropogenic global warming caused the earthquake? The earth struck back against the developed nations of the world for failing to limit carbon emissions by hitting Haiti?

Your an idiot...is that what your sayin Mr. Glover? I wonder if Keith Olberman will have a segment on Glover's comments like he did the for moron Rush and religious nut Robertson who used the tragedy to try and help their agenda or since he's a lib like Keith he gets a pass?

Commie Glover's stupidity will be ignored by most of the media. LOL.

George Bush hates black people!!!

GlobalWarming is at fault
by Danny Glover.

Didn't y'all know that global warming is responsible for everything, including constipation, male pattern balding and gay penguins? Listen to de man, Senor Glover knows of what he speaks.

*sarcasm concluded*

As for the point of the article, I just hope this doesn't turn into another We Are the World-type extravaganza that will raise millions of dollars, yet accomplish nothing. Children are still starving in Africa, and the Haitians will still be the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, even if the money pours in. If the aid gets to people who actually needs it, rather than into the pockets of some damned corrupt policiticans, then more power to the fund-raisers. I don't have enough faith in politicians, in any part of the world, though, for me to think that the people of Haiti will be on the road to wellness in a month, let alone ten years from now.

"Dear old Pat still thrills the oldies and the old-at-heart. But I wouldn't be relying on controversial curse-calling Christians to fuel continued audience interest. Craptacular Copenhagenite claims, on the other hand, seem rather more topical. Fault lines run beneath both. Neither is as destructive as the quake, yet one refers to events of today instead of events centuries past. It's called "news" for a reason."
