'Jersey Shore': MTV plays hardball, who will crack first? [Updated]

Jersey-Shore-Sammi-Snooki-MTV-320.jpgThe much-publicized MTV vs. the "Jersey Shore" cast second season negotiations have stepped up a notch.

This past weekend, the Internet was abuzz with news that the "Jersey Shore" cast had turned down MTV's first offer of a $10,000 signing bonus and a $5,000 per episode salary.

Allegedly, MTV returned by doubling their per episode offer to $10,000. Reports say the cast also made it clear they were using a "Friends-style" bargaining approach in which they negotiate as a group.

Today, TMZ reports that MTV has called their bluff. The website's sources say that MTV has set a deadline for end-of-business today (Mon. Jan. 25) for the cast to accept its latest offer. If they don't, sources say, the network is ready to replace them or mix up the cast with those who accept the offer and newbies.

Audition tapes from guidos and guidettes who are willing to step into the cast's place have been apparently arriving at MTV for months. Could they already have some backups in place?

TMZ says that Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino and Pauly "DJ Pauly D" Delvecchio are the toughest negotiators of the bunch. Will the cast stick to their guns as a group or will individuals defect to save their own necks?

Who will crack first?

[Update 6:26 PM Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino spoke to Access Hollywood this evening regarding the negotiations with MTV. He is optimistic a deal will be reached this week. He also says the reports about MTV's deadline for end-of-business today are false. He would not quote numbers for the offer, but he did say that it's true that the group is negotiating "Friends-style." As of now, Mike says no one has defected from the group to make an individual deal nor does he believe anyone will.

MTV has yet to reply to Zap2it's request for a comment.]

Why isn't who cares one of the options?

i would def drop anyone who is in a relationship during the show....who wants to watch boring couples?

Can't we have a choice: "Cancel the show, and show actual music videos again?"

Cancel the whole show! Who gives a rip about these dip wads? Seriously...

Get rid of them all and get off my beaches.

These kids should be lucky to get what they're getting now. They just showed up at a beach at the request of MTV to FRIGGIN HANG OUT. AND THEY WANT MORE MONEY? Especially that PIG TROLL they call snookie. Get real jobs, or atleast go to an acting school if you want to make money in front of a camera.

But...but...the show's only been on a couple of months. AND it's a reality show which means, by definition, there are NO STARS. To be pulling this sort of bargaining thing is just greedy. If the show runs 5 years and the people in it become household names like, say, Richard Hatch or whatever, then OK fine. Right now it's just premature. Honestly, MTV could replace the lot of them and I doubt most people would notice, let alone care.

Trash. The lot of them. Especially Snookie, that disgusting sub-human sea monster.
