'Heroes,' 'Day One,' 'Law & Order': NBC notes from press tour
"Heroes" could live to see another season on NBC -- but it's not a done deal yet.NBC Entertainment president Angela Bromstad said Sunday (Jan. 10) at the TV Critics Association press tour that "there's a very good chance" the show could return for a fifth season, but a decision won't be made until the network looks at its crop of pilots for next season.
It's a pretty big crop -- the network plans to order 10 drama and eight comedy pilots this development season, but despite its scuffling ratings, "Heroes" may stand a decent chance at returning. Simply put, NBC has a lot of holes to plug, particularly since it's abandoning the Jay Leno-at-10 experiment in a month's time.
Bromstad says "Heroes" creator Tim Kring will be pitching his ideas for season 5 in the next couple of weeks. The show has wrapped production on the current season, meaning that if NBC does decide to end it, the Feb. 8 season finale will also probably be the series finale.
- Another NBC sci-fi project, "Day One," has been shortened yet again.
The alien-invasion show, which began life as a 13-episode series, then became a four-hour miniseries, will now air as a two-hour movie. The good news is that it will also be a back-door pilot -- meaning that if it performs well, NBC could pull the trigger on more episodes.
For now, though, the two hours is all NBC has shot. The now-movie focuses on a small group of survivors of an invasion and stars David Lyons ("ER"), Julie Gonzalo ("Eli Stone"), Carly Pope ("Dirt," "24"), Catherine Dent ("The Shield") and Xander Berkeley ("24"). Jesse Alexander ("Heroes," "Alias") created it
- NBC is talking with "Law & Order" creator Dick Wolf about switching coasts.
Bromstad said the network pitched a Los Angeles-based "Law & Order" spinoff to Wolf earlier in the season, and they're talking about developing a show set in Southern California. Few other details have been worked out so far, but Bromstad does say that an L.A.-set show could coexist with the other "Law & Order" permutations currently on the network.
NBC Universal TV Entertainment chairman Jeff Gaspin says Wolf has started referring to the new project as "Lola," short for "Law & Order: Los Angeles."

Really? Another law and order?
If NBC is truly trying to get out of fourth place, they need to drop most of the ideas mentioned above. No one needs another season of the horrible Heroes or another version of Law and Order. Come on y'all - there are enough police procedurals already.
Please, please let them renew Heroes if for no other reason then they need proper time to close it out. If the show ends with an episode that doesn't provide any closure then it's going to feel awful but more importantly **** a lot of fans off. Despite low ratings a lot of fans are still pretty loyal, I know I am. If they end it was an abrupt unintentional finale then not only will it feel like a kick in the nads but the show will feel very incomplete. They need to at least give it one more run, small one even, to close out properly.
YES! More Law & Order! If the crappy CBS shows can have clones than so can Law & Order and anything that is not a reality show is watchable for me.
I cannot believe that NBC is even considering, renewing the pathetically, pitiful "Heroes" for another season. Don't they look at the rating? don't they realize no one is watching anymore? Well maybe this right here is a perfect example of NBC is the worst network on TV.
People do watch. I mean you have to know that people all over the world watch the show..I think Heroes deserves another season of 22 episodes so that it can finish out it's run on episode 100. Unless it goes further than that. Plus syndication purposes..it's just a better marketable decision. They'll make back their money on dvd sales and when a cable network picks it up for syndication.
the concept of Heroes has a lot of potential..as does the show still. It's not like shows haven't gone down in ratings then gone back up. People still watch..god STFU all i hear everyday is blah blah blah heroes sucks because people are watch it normally don't overthink every little thing becuz most fans are not tv critics. it's so ******* annoying.
Despite FOX airs "American Idol" while NBC airs "The Biggest Loser" in the 8PM(ET) slot.
Therefore, I hope NBC could move "The Biggest Loser" to a 9PM(ET) slot on Tuesday Nights?
David Heroes would have great ratings if the writing and acting wasn't horrible. I don't care if it gets another season or not makes no difference to me but come on Heroes is horrible.
they need to definitely bring Heroes back for season 5, it's my favorite show, this season the show is finally getting it's mojo back.
certainly Kring needs to focus on the main heroes, it's worth bringing back
