Grammy 2010 predictions from artists, critics

taylor-swift-getty-320.jpgTaylor Swift? Beyonce? Lady Gaga?

The 2010 Grammys has some strong female contenders this year. The only question is which one will dominate the evening.

We've scoured the Internet to gather some of the predictions from music critics (the AP, Billboard, Chicago Tribune), from artists (Rolling Stone asked P!nk, ?estlove and other artists sans punctuation) and even a couple gambling sites, courtesy of MTV, for the top Grammy categories.

There's not a huge consensus, but even though Beyonce was one of the top earners (she and Jay-Z as a couple) of 2009, it appears that even the bootylicious Sasha Fierce was overshadowed by country ingenue Swift and the outrageous(ly talented) Lady Gaga in the predictions.

Take a look at how the votes fell:

Album of the Year

"Fearless" - Taylor Swift [Billboard, Ladbrokes, Bodog.com]
"The Fame" - Lady Gaga [P!nk, ?estlove, Silversun Pickups' Brian Aubert]
"Big Whiskey And The Groogrux King" - Dave Matthews Band [AP Moody, AP Fekadu]
"I Am...Sasha Fierce" -  Beyonce [Chicago Tribune]
"The E.N.D." -  The Black Eyed Peas

It seems like oddsmakers think Swift has it in the bag, but artists respect the Gaga. Both AP writers Nekesa Mumbi Moody and Mesfin Fekadu threw their hats in with Dave Matthews Band because they believe the Grammy voters are swayed by nostalgia.

Record of the Year

"Use Somebody" - Kings of Leon [P!nk, AP Moody, AP Fekadu]
"Poker Face" - Lady Gaga [Billboard, Keri Hilson]
"You Belong With Me" - Taylor Swift [Chicago Tribune, Ladbrokes, Bodog.com]
"Halo" - Beyonce
"I Gotta Feeling" - The Black Eyed Peas

There's no denying how widely played "Use Somebody" and "Poker Face" were worldwide, but don't underestimate the power of country.

Song of the Year

"Use Somebody" - Kings of Leon [AP Moody, AP Fekadu]
"You Belong With Me" - Taylor Swift [Ladbrokes, Bodog.com]
"Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" - Beyonce [Billboard, Chicago Tribune]
"Pretty Wings" - Hod David & Musze, aka Maxwell
"Poker Face," Lady Gaga & RedOne

The usual suspects, but wait, no vote for the Lady? The AP's Fekadu and the Chicago Tribune note that Maxwell should win for "Pretty Wings," but has no chance to do so.

Best New Arist

Zac Brown Band [AP Moody, Billboard]
MGMT [AP Fekadu, Silversun Pickups' Brian Aubert, Ladbrokes, Bodog.com]
Keri Hilson - [Keri Hilson (duh!), Chicago Tribune]
Silversun Pickups
The Ting Tings

It was nice of Brian Aubert not to weigh in on this category, although that didn't stop Keri Hilson, and even though the Chicago Tribune also predicted Hilson to win, they think The Ting Tings are more deserving. Zap2it is rooting for MGMT.

All awards have become so predictable and meaningless, it just a fashion show at this point.

The only thing I have seen advertised is that absurd and total waste of time tribute to michael(PERVERT)jackson. No thank you. I won't be watching.

Who should win? Any one that writes their own musical score and can play a musical instrument. I guess that leaves only few, nominations.
