Disney production chief Oren Aviv ousted

Production chief Oren Aviv has been ousted by Walt Disney Studios chairman Rich Ross, according to an LA Times report.

This follows the resignation of studio chief Dick Cook in September 2009. Ross was named studio chair a month later and begin firing some of Cook's top execs. The paper says its likely he'll name a new production head and marketing chief soon.

The shakeups follow a shaky year of underperforming movies such as "Confessions of a Shopaholic" and "Old Dogs."

Aviv has been with the studio for 18 years and began as the president of marketing before moving to production. He was also one of Cook's allies.

Maybe if Disney would get it through their thick skulls that what made them so successful for so many years still holds true today, they wouldn't see their movie offerings tanking at the box office. Disney thrived on providing quality entertainment for the entire family, not putting out moron movies like Old Dogs. They made this same mistake back in the late 70s and early 80s when they released dreck like The Black Hole, from which they didn't recover until the studio released The Little Mermaid, getting back to what made Disney great to start with. Obviously, they haven't learned a damn thing. Go with what works, and don't try to fix what isn't broken to begin with. Four-year-olds can figure that out, so why can't Disney?
