CW picks up 'La Femme Nikita' and 'Gilmore Girls' team-produced drama

The CW has picked up the pilot for a TV remake of "La Femme Nikita" and a family drama by the producers of "Gilmore Girls," reports THR's Live Feed.

"Nikita, which centers on a young condemned criminal who's trained as a top-secret assassin, has already lived many lives. There's the original French movie in 1990 by Luc Besson, the Hong Kong film "Black Cat" (1991) and American remake "Point of No Return" (1993) starring Bridget Fonda and the USA Network TV series also called "La Femme Nikita" (1997-2001) starring Peta Wilson.

In The CW update, a new assassin is trained to replace Nikita, who's gone rogue.

In more gentle CW news, the network has also ordered a family drama from "Gilmore Girls'" producers Amy Sherman Palladino and Dan Palladino.

The as yet untitled drama is set on a Wyoming horse farm.

Both projects seem consistent with appealing to The CW's target demo of younger women.

If this is a sequel to the original series, that's cool with me! Hopefully they'll get Peta Wilson back to play the original (TV) Nikita. I haven't seen her in anything since her cameo in Superman Returns.

Wasn't that an already failed show on abc family called Wildfire?

i don't really know what to think about it... nikita without peta will never be the same. and as for peta herself, recently she starred in an australian film called 'beautiful' and i also heard she's back in america working on a couple of projects including a new tv series.
if you wanna know more about 'beautiful' go to thebeautifulmovie.com or check peta's forum at petawilsononline.yuku.com

WILDFIRE actually lasted three seasons, so I'm not sure I'd call that a "failed show."
The show actually reminds me more of the Canadian show HEARTLAND on the CBC.

It would be crazy to try to remake the LFN series since no one can top Wilson and Dupuis. But if it's more of a sequel I'll certainly give it a chance.

The CW seriously needs to start targeting another form of audience if they want to see their ratings increase. How Dawn Ostroff still has a job there is beyond me.

will give it a chance but peta will always be num 1 no way anybodys beatin her =)

yesh, they should have peta and michael play nikita the operations and madeline roles--that would be cool.

One description of the SETTING and you're already crying failure AND rip-off, Callie???

(And Wildfire wasn't even a failure in the first place)

FAIL!
