Box office: 'Titanic' on course with an iceberg named 'Avatar'

It's only a matter of time before "Avatar" topples the "Titanic" box office records."Avatar" came through the weekend of Jan. 23 with a worldwide box office total of $1.841 billion. James Cameron's "Titanic's" worldwide box office total was $1.843 billion.
One has to think the last two million will be reached by Monday, Jan. 25, making "Avatar" the highest-grossing international movie of all time.
Domestically, "Avatar" is at $552.8 million, still almost $50 million shy of "Titanic's" $600 million domestic box office take. "Avatar" took home $36 million the weekend of Jan. 23. If that can hold steady the next two weekends, "Avatar" should take the domestic title within two weeks.
"Avatar's" Jan. 23 box office win makes it the first movie since "Titanic" to rule the box office for six straight weeks.
What does "Titanic" have to say about this? [clang clang] "'Avatar,' right ahead!"

It had to happen sooner or later. It's a shame the movie wasn't a better one. It's a beautiful film as long as you turn your brain off and stop counting how many other movies it borrows from.
I loved 'Avatar', but 'Titanic' was a better movie and deserves to keep the #1 spot. Congrats to all involved just the same.

Noo! A better movie deserves to surpass Titanic. Don't you have to adjust for inflation? at $15 a pop for 3D IMAX sure the movie is going to make billions.

If any movie was going to surpass "Titanic" it should have been "The Dark Knight" or "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest". Atleast the money they earned was from normal ticket sales. The biggest (actually probably the ONLY) reason "Avatar" is going to break "Titanic"'s record is because of the bloated ticket prices of the 3-D and 3-D IMAX showings.
Ive seen it 4 times in imax which is the same price as the regular movie ticket is here. Its a pretty good movie. I liked titanic but you had to figure something was going to pass it sooner or later. Plus Imax is a small % of ticket sales.
What is wrong with you people! Yeah, I agree Titanic is a better movie but I think Avatar is the only movie that could beat Titanic. All Cameron asks is for you to let go of life's worries and just let yourself sink into this world that he created. I understand why it's making so much money...people can't get enough of Pandora and it's people.
I think this movie is very anti-military. I'm a U.S. soldier and I think it sends a big message "anti-u.s." I walked out at the end of this movie......I would like Cameron to give me my money back!
