'American Idol': Ellen DeGeneres responds to Cowell leaving, jabs at NBC
Ellen DeGeneres manages to be both serious and take a shot at NBC in her response to the news that judge Simon Cowell is leaving "American Idol" after this season. She also gives us a sneak peek at some auditions. Watch below.
Ellen says that she's trying not to take it personally, since Cowell announced he was leaving on her very first day. She also says she's sad to see him go but wishes him luck with hosting "The Tonight Show." Snerk.
Ellen recently told Entertainment Weekly that if Simon left, she would leave too but FOX chairman Peter Rice from "Idol" clarified that she "was making a joke."
So can "Idol" survivor with Kara, Randy and Ellen?

I won't watch after Simon is gone..Ellen has no back ground in Singing/Music..why is she even a judge. Paula was great and should have been kept on American Idol. The show is done when Simon leaves. When you picked up Ellen that was the begining of the end.
Couln't disagree with you more
Kathy. Paula was a waste of air...she never said or did anything of substance. Her ramblings sent me to the remote every time. At least Ellen can be funny and will take a "fan's" view of the show and I think she'll be great.
My biggest fear when Simon leaves is that they will find some replacement who is told to be the "mean" judge and it just won't work. It is a rare person who can get away with what Simon does and still have people like and respect him/her.
I love Ellen and think she will be great. I don't think it matters one lick whether she has intimate, inside experience within the music industry. She has entertainment experience, many years of which were on stage as a standup comedienne. It gets no harder than that, people. So she will relate to the contestants in much the same way that Paula did (when she was lucid). Besides, Kara and Randy have loads of industry knowledge but that hasn't made them better judges. Kara is an insecure, annoying thing. And Randy doesn't bother to use his knowledge for any real critiques, but rather has become a caricature of himself, relegated to a few catch phrases that become increasingly annoying with each passing season.
So welcome Ellen! And Simon, love him or hate him, will be sorely missed and nearly impossible to replace.
the show was great with paula & simon, it won't be anything now. i think they made a big mistake.
IDOL is dead, No Paula, now
no Simon.I love Ellen, but she
was boring as a judge on SYTYCD over the summer. I can't believe she'll less boring for a whole season.
People, SERIOUSLY! Paula Abdul was terrible. I get so embarassing watching her act drunk on TV that I would mute it when it was her turn to "speak". What good is a judge who can't form a logical sentence? I've met 2 year olds with better sentence structure.
I'm going to miss Simon and his tight black t-shirts on AI
i remember when they banned people from singing that awful alicia keys song, what happened to the ban
Whether you liked Paula or not, she still had experience in the music industry, as should all the judges who are on the show. Ellen has NO musical experience. Entertainment experience just doesn't cut it for me. She has too soft of a heart to be a judge on the show, in my opinion. Add to the fact that Simon is leaving, well, I'm leaving too...
I don't think we can say whether Ellen will be a good judge or not before we actually see her on the show. We should critise one by her/his experience. Although Ellen has no music experience. This doesn't mean she does not have knowledge of music and won't prevent her to be a good judge.
