'American Idol': Could 'Pants on the Ground' be a rip-off?

pants-on-the-ground-green-brothers-320.jpg"American Idol" auditioner Larry Platt's "Pants on the Ground" may not be so original after all.

The Green Brothers, a Michigan hip-hop duo, is claiming that the famous "Pants on the Ground" song is a "take off" of their "Back Pockets on the Floor" that they recorded in 1996, reports MyFoxDetroit.

Both songs are performed by older black men and lament how the youth of today wear ill-fitting pants and their baseball caps askew.

A few sample lyrics from "Back Pockets on the Floor":

"Back pockets on the floor (repeated) ...
Walk around here with your cap turned backwards and your pockets on the floor
It's time to say no to the gangster, the drugs, and the dress code (repeat x3)
It's time to put your cap on right and get your pockets off the floor."

Luckily, Gerald Green doesn't have a litigious nature, and just wants to make sure that their song isn't overlooked.

Quit stealing stories from TMZ.com!!! You look like idiots who search the internet for other people's stories to just re-write in your own words!! Please bring back the old Zap2it.com.

Not a ripoff. They don't even sound alike besides the cap part but that's it. It doesn't even have the same flow to it.

Hey "Really?" --

Actually, both TMZ.com and Zap2it.com did the same thing: they wrote off the MyFoxDetroit site. You can see it in the link there.

I like the message but I think I like Pants On The Ground better. lol

The dude on the left (with his pockes of the floor) dances like a white woman. I can say this, because I AM a white woman.

LOL PGHsue, about how that dude dances but i'll cut him some slack he's looks like a senior i'm just sayin'....

Anyway idea is the same about the pants and the cap, but i think the song sounds different enough to say it's not a rip-off.

WTH is this train wreck?

Unlike some other people, I do not have the time to search the internet and check who wrote what store first, so I am thankful that Zap2it provides all stories, regardless of whether they were the first or not.
Thank You Zap2it

Definitely different song--this one has a more intense message. Pants on the Floor is more humorous. There's room for both!

There is not a chance that the American Idol General is a rip-off artist.

Know that there is a female co-writer to "Pants on the Ground" in Atlanta whom is also a known activist with truth and details of the song. ("Pants on the Ground")
The song was written from the Fulton County Courthouse steps Downtown Atlanta, GA. Gen. Larry Platt protesting the foreclosures 2+ years with the female co-writer. (Whom both are activist)
