'American Idiot,' the musical, gets a Grammy preview
Green Day is going to Broadway. The Grammy-winning former punk-rock band will see its 2004 concept album "American Idiot" turned into a Broadway musical starting in late March, when previews begin at the St. James Theater in New York. The official opening is set for April 20.
Viewers of the Grammys got a peek at the musical -- which will also include songs from the group's "21st Century Breakdown" -- at the Grammys on Sunday (Jan. 31), when the trio and the show's cast performed "21 Guns" together. (Green Day also picked up a Grammy Sunday night for best rock album.)
In some ways, adapting "American Idiot" into a musical makes perfect sense: The album was conceived as a rock opera, and tells a story from beginning to end. But a stage musical is a long way from the band's punk roots.
A Green Day musical -- is that something you might be interested in? What did you think of the band/cast's Grammy performance?
