Will 'So You Think You Can Dance' return to a summer-only schedule?
2009 was a year chock-full of "So You Think You Can Dance"... for the producers, judges and crew especially. Since FOX decided to try a fall season of the traditionally summer-only series, there wasn't a single "SYTYCD"-free month, with auditions beginning in January, season 5 airing through August and season 6 bowing in September.But if executive producer/judge Nigel Lythgoe has his way, that won't happen again.
Speaking to reporters backstage after Wednesday's (Dec. 9) results show, Lythgoe said twice a year was too much and that he'd prefer to go back to airing just once.
However, Lythgoe was also quite clear about the fact that no official decision has been made as of yet -- it's far too early for FOX to be making fall scheduling moves (though ratings for the fall edition haven't been as good as the summer run). But seeing as how season 7 auditions start in January, we're thinking Lythgoe will get his way.
The summer edition of the show is for sure happening. But don't expect the train to keep moving past August.
Said Lythgoe, "We're already exhausted."

Good. There's something way off with this fall edition. I like it in the summer much, much better.
It's a summer staple so leave it there and stop over-exposing it.
Summer only, please! Also bring back Mia Michaels!!!
I wasn't on board the fall train. I needed a break and, from what I've heard, I didn't miss much. Way too much.
I like that idea. I think the problem with the fall season is that there's so many new/popular shows coming on those days that SYTYCD kind of falls lower and lower on the 'what to watch tonight' scale.
I love this show, but only in the summer, this season has been a disappointment, one thing for sure I hate the new set, bring back the old set. This new set is to over powering it does not showcase the dancer's like the old one did.
like any popular reality show, FOX will just run it into the ground. having it on again just diluted its appeal. I won't be back...
I didn't like that the performance show was opposite the DWTS results show. I really like both shows and I think that SYTYCD has much better dancing, but I don't like them competing against each other.
That being said, I think the Season 6 of SYTYCD has had absolutely stunning dancers. I hate to see each one go.
The first couple of weeks of Season 6, however, were gyps with the judges in total control of who went home. Either have viewers vote. . . or don't! And the new stage is too big and the video background is often intrusive and confusing. So, bottom line, maybe simpler and as a summer series only might be the answer.
Summer only agreed. Twice in a row was too much. I made it through the first three weeks of actual competition in the fall and I was burnt out.
I love the show and will watch it whenever it is on. I can live with sunmer only, but please don't cancel it.
