What did you expect from Jerry Bruckheimer? His trailer for the modern update of Disney's "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" is full of explosions and action. It goes with the Bruckheimer territory.
Nicolas Cage stars as the aforementioned sorcerer, who names young Dave (Jay Baruchel) his apprentice in modern-day New York City. Lots of explosions and one pretty wicked car chase ensue, no doubt due to evil, evil Alfred Molina.
The original -- sans car chases -- was a part of Disney's 1940 film "Fantasia": A sorcerer's apprentice, Mickey Mouse, gets lazy and brings a broom to life to do the daily chores. That doesn't work as planned, so Mickey brings more brooms to life, which cause more trouble, and so on.
