'Twilight: Eclipse' author Stephenie Meyer plagiarism suit thrown out

stepheniemeyer_twilight_290.jpgVampires, werewolves and humans are safe to frolic together in Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" world.

U.S. District Court Judge Otis D. Wright II has thrown out a plagiarism suit brought against Meyer by Jordan Scott, a fellow author whose topics lean toward the supernatural.

Scott claimed Meyer's "Breaking Dawn," fourth in the "Twilight" series, bore uncanny similarities to Scott's own novel "The Nocturne." As Zap2it covered in our previous report, those similarities are generic enough to be a tough case for plagiarism.

Judge Wright, after reading both books, apparently agreed, calling the works "not substantially similar as a matter of law."

His Honor also played literary critic. In his decision, he said of "The Nocturne": The prose is "an amalgamation of largely archaic and some modern language that is likely unparalleled in either classical or modern literature."

"Breaking Dawn," on the other hand, "maintains a very modern and fresh tone throughout the story that is appealing to a younger audience."

duh.

You mean someone else would actually want literary credit for this material?

Oh, god, the poor man had to read both books??? Send him a bottle of scotch, stat.

people like you two (Janey/Snicker), and I'm guessing neither has read twilight books, are the reason why we need screening process before allowing people to roam the internets...

Sorry Janey... correction (Snicker/agilebrit)

And you sir, Ed ZEN, are in dire need of a funny bone transplant. STAT!!!

I have to say I'm with Snicker on this one! I like Twilight, but being an adult and forced to read not only one but two of these books seems deserving of a case of scotch.

Stephanie Meyers has a unique way of writing, and perhaps, instead of drinking scotch, you could read them with out it. All four. And then "The Host".

Stephenie Meyer is a great writer! I am so done with all these authors trying to put her down. Stephen King tried to say that she could't write! what a LOSER! She is a great writer that has inspired even people that don't like to read to actually read! I love her books!! I cant wait till she graces us with another book!!

STEPHENIE MEYER IS ONE OF THE *BEST* WRITERS OF OUR TIME!! (PERIOD)!

Ew, Barf.

One of the best writers of all time? I think not. Breaking Dawn was the epitome of 'suck'. I suggest you read a little more before you say she is the best of all time.

I liked Twilight. The series kind of went downhill from there. I read them all- Sober, mind you, and the last one was at the quality of a fan fiction. It was baaaaaaad.
