TV Ratings: NBC sings on Monday, CBS still wins
Fast National ratings for Monday, Dec. 15, 2009The finale of "The Sing-Off" improved the numbers for NBC, but it still could not take down CBS' dominance in the ratings, even against a lineup of reruns.
CBS drew 8.2 million viewers and a 5.2 rating/9 share in households in primetime, though NBC was hot on their heels with 6.8 million viewers and a 4.2/7. ABC (5.0 million, 3.1/5) barely beat out FOX (4.5 million, 2.8/4) and the CW took fifth with 800K, 0.6/1.
CBS also took the 18-49 demographic with a 2.4/7, though that was much closer than the ratings as a whole, as NBC finished with a 2.1/6. FOX (1.4/4) actually beat ABC (1.3/4) in that demo and the CW was fifth with 0.3/1.

I personally enjoyed the show. I was thrilled with the performance. Great job!!!
@Jason and Steve: The press never likes to point out failures (at least in Tv programming - when a celebrity fails, they love it..! (?) ) but I can't think of CW sinking so low as that Gossip Girl re-run.
And yet, CW seems to continue to be fully committed to making Gossip Girl clones and keeping Dawn Ostroff in charge of the run to zero viewers.
Two and a Half men is doing gangbusters in re-runs (which bodes well for the future of its syndicated run), while Castle, by being beaten by Leno, is showing signs of not re-running all that well (like most of ABC's lineup which is now on life support).
@Smitty: you make a good point, and a great illustration of the dire straights NBC finds itself in under the captaincy of Jeff Zucker.
@Tim: I couldn't agree more. Those are horrifying numbers for any person who cares about the long-term health of network television as what you need at this point is a schedule filled with shows first-running above 10 million and hitting 10 in re-runs. Only a few shows manage to deliver what should really be a bare minimum.
NBC did OK last night, just wait until january when CHUCK returns, it will be even better.
i like "i want a dog for christmas ,charlie brown" more than i like "a charlie brown christmas". anybody else ?
With an all-rerun lineup, CBS won the night both with adults 18-49 and with overall viewers, and even in repeats The Big Bang Theory was CBS’ best show with adults 18-49, while Two and a Half Men reeled in the most viewers.
NBC’s The Sing Off did about as well as it did in last Monday’s premiere averaging a 2.3 rating with adults 18-49 and fueled NBC to a victory for the night on the broadcast networks with adults 18-34. Notably, that 2.3 rating between 8pm-10pm was the best 18-49 ratings for the slot since September 28, and the biggest overall audience between 8pm-10pm since September 14. That doesn’t reflect very well on Trauma or Heroes. Will things be any better with Chuck?
As ever, The Jay Leno Show couldn’t beat a repeat of CSI: Miami, though it easily bested repeat of Castle. But Castle’s lead-in Find My Family hit another series low with adults 18-49 and has sustained consecutive ratings losses every week since its premiere.

600K for a rerun of Gossip Girl? Wow (bad). CW would be better off renewing cancelled shows from other networks (as CBS did with NBC's Medium). It would open the CW up to new viewers that would normally bypass the network altogether. A qualification for a castoff would be that it garnered a significantly higher audience on its previous network than the CW gets for its highest-rated shows (e.g. Dollhouse wouldn't qualify because it stunk ratings-wise on FOX, bad ratings even for a CW show!). CW could use this tactic to build a more diverse audience and to rebrand itself. Then, this would allow the CW some leeway to take chances on promoting and airing new shows.
NBC can only go so far with the reality garbage and ABC is turning ito a joke again. Don't tell me they need to bring Regis back to save it like he did back in 2002 with that Millionaire show.
"clearly she must be banging some mailboy @ ABC..."
clearly *he* must be banging some mailboy @ ABC...anyway, LOL Fake.
