'Survivor: Samoa': Is Russell Hantz a hero or a villain?

russell-hantz-survivor-320.jpg"Evil" Russell Hantz was one of the most polarizing contestants in "Survivor" history. Find out if Russell and his fellow Final Five see him as a hero or a villain and vote for yourself in our poll.

We attended the "Survivor: Samoa" finale tonight and after they teased that the 20th season of "Survivor" is going to be Heroes vs Villains, the question on everyone's mind was if Russell would be included. He got asked at every turn on the red carpet.

We happen to think it's highly likely that Russell was asked to participate, so the question on our minds is: Which side is Russell Hantz on?

We asked Natalie, Brett, Mick and Jaison on what side they felt Russel should be cast if he does in fact participate in next season's show. They unanimously said "villain." Mick went so far as to laugh at us for even asking the question, saying, "He's a total villain! Are you kidding me? He's the epitome of villain. He's like the Darth Vadar of 'Survivor!'"

However, Russell says he's a hero and that clearly America thinks he's a hero as well. So vote below. Is Russell Hantz a hero or a villain?

"Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains" will have a two-hour premiere on Thursday, Feb. 11.

He's a villain in the world of Survivor, but Russell is totally my hero.

he is a P.O.S.now he wont be able to buy some hair or teeth.or move out of the trailer park.

Agree totally with Ariel. Definite villain, but in a GOOD WAY!

And lindy, did you even WATCH the show? Russell is already a millionaire. No trailer park for that guy, as he makes way more than you probably ever will, even WITHOUT Survivor. Of course, it's rumoured second place on Survivor is worth $500,000, plus he made $100,000 by winning the fan vote, so he's not exactly hurting from the show, either.

Agree with the first. He CARRIED so many people it's funny how they talk smack about him now. GG

They would probably put him under villain but he did make the show really good to watch.

Russell is definitely a villain..i thought this is already confirmed.

Rooting for him to win next season.. I heard the survivor:villain vs heroes already ended filming.

No offense but Russell didn't carry people, he got other people to carry him.

In the first part of his game, he was carried by the men in his tribe and Natalie and the other girl, simply because he was a man. In the meantime he decimated his own tribe. At the merge he was carried by the "feckless" Shambo. Had she never switched, he would have been dead in the water (unless of course the Survivor gods chose to keep supplying him oppurtunties to find hidden immunity idols). He was also carried by Natalie and Jaison who had the good sense to jump on the "vote out Eric" train. I beleive he wanted to go after Laura. Finally, he road the coatails Jaison and Mick who apparantly were either afraid to vote him out or thought they could easily beat him in the final or were too afraid of Brett winning.

Seriously, is being the "Greatest Survivor Player Ever" an applicable title when everyone around you wasn't even atually playing a complete game (except Natalie).

I just watched the “Morning Show” on CBS.
Russell thinks “the people” felt he should have won? I would like to know who makes up “The People’s Choice”? It’s hard to believe that his behavior is something to look up to and be rewarded with a $100,000.00. Again American society choices/values are ill placed. Because of his lies about his dog dying and being a victim of Hurricane Katrina, have him donate some or all of his $100,000.00 to helping some organization in that destroyed areas if he is such a wonderful person that he claims to be and a millionaire. He doesn’t need the money he said. He acts like he does need it.
He has no manners. His friend Shambo should have taken him aside before the TV shows and told him that a gentleman takes his hat off when entering a building. It’s a sign of respect. Shambo should know that from her Marine Corp days. Who dresses him anyways?
Russell could not even be the least bit gracious and/or even consider that Natalie’s strategy was just as good, if not better than his in order to get to the final three He is such an arrogant and disrespectful person to all of his survivor mates, especially the women. How fitting that a woman and as he said “dumb blonde bimbo” beat him at his own game and did so with integrity and respect from her fellow Survivor mates. Russell didn’t have that respect from his fellow Survivor mates.
I think Erik said it all. Natalie’s strategy to lay low and stay under the radar is a more admirable strategy than his conduct of lying and going out of his way to make things uncomfortable in an already uncomfortable environment.
Game? Yes, but is there no honor in how you get to the final goal? Are there lessons to be learned from his behavior vs. Natalie, Brent, Nick, Jaison?

His disrespect for woman was evident and he wanted everyone to know he’s not the jerk he put himself out to be in Survivor Somoa and he didn’t want his two girls to think he really is like that..
In his Survivor bio – “Russell can’t wait to get in the competition and show “these morons how it’s done” and he “plans to play the game dirtier, smarter and more cunning than anyone can imagine.” It is those skills that have allowed him to achieve his biggest accomplishment in life and that is being able to provide for his family. “ Well girls………Dad’s actions and verbal comments came too easy……and girls……that behavior is your Dad, it wasn’t a game and his derogatory comments, greed, disrespect of the individuals in the group especially the women is not the correct way to be. His conduct on the finale show was no different than on the island.
Fortunately, the people who actually had to live with him for 40 days, really saw him for who he is and agreed that he was not worthy of the million dollars. Playing a game isn’t the only objective. Doing it with class, integrity, honesty and real loyalty does count. Deep down, Russell has fallen way short of any admirable qualities and should not be hailed as a master game player, but as a manipulator that we all should be aware of in life. He even was willing to buy the title of “Sole Survivor” from Natalie. So insecure, that he needs a title?
If I was in business or doing business with this guy, I’d be careful and/or find another provider of fuel.
I think his true personality was on the show, on the finale and on this morning’s “Morning Show”. He’ll keep talking himself up and trying to convince everyone he was the true winner. Anyone with any admirable core values, knows otherwise.
He’s probably trying to make his way into the February show. Heroes vs. Villians. I’m sure they already have him lined up as Russell has quite the “can’t stand Russell” crowd for those of us who watched the show. If we’re lucky, he’ll be voted out early and we will be spared watching bad behavior that some think is O.K. and watch some quality game playing.
I am a retired college coach and also have worked in many management positions in the business world, so I do know a little about game playing, true winning and winning with integrity, honesty, teamwork, individual effort and loyalty….. Russell is someone……I wouldn’t even want in or around the stadium, my staff or my players.
You didn’t win Russell. You were not the best at the game. You didn’t have all of the components of a winner or a proper “think through to the end game strategy” and all of the possible scenarios.

Villain - But in the world of survivor, that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Villains have often been my favorite players in the past.

Heroes vs. Villains has already been filmed. It was filmed immediately after Survivor Samoa finished.
