'SNL,' Kristen Wiig warm up a new holiday special

"Saturday Night Live" will present its first new(-ish) holiday special in seven years next week.It's called "SNL Presents: A Very Gilly Christmas" and will feature cast member Kristen Wiig doing one of her recurring characters, the impish and malicious troublemaker Gilly. NBC says the special will also include new material from Oscar co-hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin, as well as classic holiday sketches from those two frequent hosts (Martin's "A Holiday Wish" and Baldwin's "Schweddy Balls") and others.
The two-hour special is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. Because it will be featured in the special, and because any excuse is a good one to embed the clip, here's the digital short "D*ck in a Box."

Gilly is one of the worst characters on SNL. Why won't this one go away? Some of her other characters are good (Target lady, Penelope) but this is just annoying.
I love D*ck in a box!
I hate Gilly too. In fact, I make it a rule to only watch original character skits, SNL Digital Shorts and Weekend Update when I watch SNL. I can normally get through an hour and a half episode in 20-30 minutes that way. I imagine I can get through this two-hour special in the same amount of time.

I agree. Gilly is the worst character SNL has created in recent times. Anyone but her!
You people are ridiculous. Of course you hate Gilly, just like you hate Frank Burns. But like the latter, Wiig plays the former so well you fell for it. Wiig plays Gilly with such glee you just can't help but hate to love her. Or is that love to hate her? Sheesh, get over it. Just because a character is "unpleasant" doesn't mean it isn't good. All I ask is they keep those sketches short; we don't need too much of a good thing.
Every character Wiig portrays makes my hair hurt. I know she is a human being, but she needs to be let go. Her characters are essentailly all the same annoying freak show and they are not funny. Replace her now.
