'Precious,' '(500) Days of Summer' top Independent Spirit nominations

precious_290.jpgThe charmed life of Oprah Winfrey fave "Precious" is continuing: The film, propelled from indie curiosity to mainstream box-office draw by Winfrey's praise, has been nominated for Best Picture at the 25th Film Independent Spirit Awards.

Bittersweet romance "(500) Days of Summer" is also on the Best Picture and Best Screenplay lists; that film, like "Precious," made some waves among mainstream audiences due to leads Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel.

Also on track is "The Last Station," a look at author Leo Tolstoy and his attempts to preserve his legacy.

The awards ceremony will be held March 5, 2010, in Los Angeles and broadcast on cable channel IFC.
