Nicole Richie is in for 'Project Runway'

nicole-richie-runway-320.jpgNicole Richie will join Heidi Klum and Co. on the season premiere of "Project Runway" in January.

Richie will be a guest judge on the season's first episode, which airs Thursday, Jan. 14 on Lifetime. She'll critique the designers alongside Klum and fellow judges Michael Kors and Nina Garcia, who will be back full-time.

"Nicole is a fabulous guest judge," executive producer Sara Rea tells People. "She has strong opinions and gives clear and specific constructive criticism to the designers. Also, she isn't afraid to disagree with the other judges."

Richie is no stranger to the fashion world -- she has a clothing line called Winter Kate and a jewelry collection called House of Harlow 1960.

The "Project Runway" premiere taped over the summer, when Richie was still pregnant with her son, Sparrow (who was born in September).

Boo!!! She's no better than having Lindsay Lohan as a guest judge last season!

I think she will do a good job. I think she has grown up alot since she became a mother.

I love Nicole Richie. She is hilarious. She has a very interesting sense of fashion that isn't mainstream. I think she'll make an excellent guest judge. I'm thrilled to hear that Michael and Nina will be back full time. Their absense through the majority of last season left a big hole in the show. Something always felt like it wasn't meshing.

While Nicole's fashion choices are decent.. does this really qualify her to be a judge? Unless the "project" is for her then I could see that. How about possessing the skills, first-hand experience and know-how to provide to the contestants useful and effective feedback to improve their work? Gone should be the days of handing someone a "job" to be a judge on something that one really doesn't have any basis of "judging" besides the fact that she has the money to buy the clothes and therefore able to wear the clothes. Whatever.

Yasmine - you took the words right out of my mouth! I totally agree!
