My holiday gift to you: The latest 'Lost' promo
Looks like ABC learned its lesson from the response to the Cuatro promo for "Lost," and is stepping up its own endeavors to provide excitement for Season 6 without being able to show any new footage from the show.
Personally speaking, I could watch Michael Emerson reading the phonebook and get excited for the final season of the show, but I'm not exactly easy like Sunday morning in terms of waiting for the ball to get rolling.
This one is narrated by Alan Dale, aka Charles Widmore, aka Eloise Hawking's baby daddy. It's unclear if he's narrating in-character or not, but his voice lends a nice gravitas to the intercutting of old clips with eerie, '70s-TV era versions of various Dharma logos. While I understand that the Swan computer is iconic in terms of the show's imagery, and most easily lends itself to the visual deployment of information in a clip such as this, it's weird for the promo to rely so heavily on something that's been absent from the show for three seasons.
In addition, the clips themselves don't offer any hint of future events: while some promos are constructed to hint at events to come, this is more of a mish-mash of the show's biggest moments. I am all for "Lost" promos being devoid of new footage, but I'd be more in favor of a series of promos that structure themselves around a central "Lost" mystery and remind viewers what's at stake in Season 6. One about the nature of the Island, one about faith/destiny, one teasing out the possible alternative timelines next season...so on and so forth.

I was loving it until the Jack Kate kiss. Can. Not. Stand. Those. Two. The thought of them in S6 really kills the buzz.
I am very interested in the very end of the promo. Was that fasten seat belts sign old footage? Or perhaps what we will be seeing on Feb 2nd, with all the passengers back on the plane as if nothing ever happened.
meh. It was nice to see Boone again, and Don's comment (see above) had me in stitches!
Well for the Jaters that was a nice hint of hopefully what's meant to happen in season 6.
I like that promo a lot, although you're right in that it almost seems like a promo for season two or something. But it was well put together, and looks like they spent more than 15 seconds on it, which is a nice change of pace. You're getting close, ABC! Keep trying!
Shawn, that shot of the fasten seatbelts sign was from the moment when Ajira 316 started going down. Personally, "No Smoking" and "Fasten Seatbelts" makes me immediately think of the Monster.
Alan Dale is great, I hope he and Desmond make it back to the Island in S6.

I'm not sure what you meant by the count down clock being used so prominently. I liked it though.
It's not the countdown: it's the use of the Swan computer typography to which I was referring.
