'Karate Kid': First look at Jaden Smith in the remake

jaden-smith-karate-kid.jpgWill Smith has spawned an action star -- his son Jaden, the new "Karate Kid." Watch the first trailer.

The young Smith fights his way onto the big screen in 2010 as Dre Parker, the newest martial arts trainee in the latest "Karate Kid" installment.

We have to say, based on this trailer... the movie looks better than we were expecting it to look. We aren't sure how we feel about Jaden Smith being 11 years younger than Ralph Macchio was in the first movie. It's like they turned it into a kids' movie.

What do you guys think?

Meh. I'll probably add it to my Netflix queue but I doubt I'll make a trip to the theater for this one.

NO way. they never got it as good as the first one, and they never will. Jackie Chan is the shiz, but he's no mr. miyagi!

Put me on the men list... First off, Nothing can touch the original, but I would normally give this a chance solely on Jackie Chan, but I am really not sold on Jaden Smith. I frankly do not thnk that he is a good actor as he was the worst character on the "The Day the Earth stood Still"... and I can see the elements that annoyed me there just on the trailer... so.... meh for me...

it's just too much. the original was a simple film and now they've tried to blow it up into some kind of epic event. bleck.

Keep it real please!

my all time favorite movie, is the 1984 Karate Kid with Ralph Macchio. I think this film will epicially fail. How gay! They don't even have the real Miyagi. Stupid idiots. No one will like this. It'll be teeny bopper. And teeny bopper things are gay.I doibt Will Smith's son is a good Daniel Larusso. And much less hot....And Pat Morita is the 1 and only Miyagi. Ralph Macchio's KK for the win.

FYI-I'm never this rude, but when it comes to remakes of good 80s movies, you gotta speak up.

The story skews a little younger than the Ralph Macchio version. Studio Execs have figured out that kids are a sure bet audience. I'm sure that if Will Smith is producing through his studio (Overbrook), you can expect a huge opening box office weekend.

looks horrible. take of my jacket? there was no way they were going to make a credible updated version of wax on wax off, they should have just left that bit alone. i hope this fails miserably... even though that won't stop hollywood execs from mining the 80s for more remakes.

Just watched the original KK and "nothing's ever gonna keep you down" to quote the cool anthem from Joe Esposito. The trailer looks plain embarrassing from the offset. With this version, it's already ingrained into the public persona that Jackie Chan is a martial arts superstar, so therefore, his character won't be a revelation; unlike Pat Morita, who was a dramatic actor and whose Miyagi completely surprised and won you over. With KK 2010, there will be no grounded story, Chan's Mr Han won't have a tragic background and worst of all, Papa Smith may be lending is vocal chords with a God awful rap song again. Do yourself a favour and watch the original (even 2-3 weren't bad). This is just going to be another supergay, kiddies martial arts flick with slowed down special effects.

just give them a chance... (be positive )
