'Good Morning America': Meet the new team

ABC formally announced the reshuffling of the "Good Morning America" team on Thursday, and then it got the new team together for a photo shoot.

Here's the first shot of the new crew -- news anchor Juju Chang, who comes over from "20/20"; co-anchors George Stephanopoulos, who's replacing Diane Sawyer, and Robin Roberts, who moves up from news anchor; and weatherman Sam Champion.

What I love about this photo is the effort made to make sure Roberts, who stands about 5-foot-10, doesn't tower over Stephanopoulos, who's maybe 5-foot-7, and the rest of the team. Everyone is leaning into the "Good Morning America" sign a little bit, but Roberts looks like she's hunched way over.

Sawyer will take over as anchor of "World News" on Dec. 21, and Chris Cuomo will join Elizabeth Vargas as a co-anchor of "20/20" and the network's chief law and justice correspondent. Stephanopoulos will continue to host the Sunday interview show "This Week" until ABC finds a replacement.

Rick, I love your Zap2It posts. They are positive and funny and report the facts (in comparison to some other trashy posts that slip into the headlines by other reporters.)

Not a big fan of George. He's too stiff for the job. He should stic to politics. I wish Chris Cuomo would have gotten the job. He has such warmth and personality. Guess I will be watching the Today show.

I'm really bummed about losing Chris and Diane, especially in the same week, but I'll give this new team a fair shot. You say that Robin is moving up from news anchor, but she hasn't held that post for awhile. She's already co-anchor.

very sad about not seeing Chris Cuomo on GMA anymore. He made me smile. George S. does not make me smile. JuJu Chang? eh. Robin and Sam are the only 2 I like at the moment for the show. Time will tell.

This is a serious mistake. George should have gone to "World News" and Diane should have stayed at GMA...or let the network find a more suitatble promotion/new spot for her...I love Diane, but this is just not right for her. I for one, an inveterate fan of GMA for decades do NOT want to see George interviewing Madonna or Robin Williams, but still do not want GMA to be all news in the AM. ABC just has the wrong cast for morning sucess. Did anyone consider Kathy Lee for a replacement? Now there's inspired casting!~

I agree that George is too stiff for GMA and should have stayed with his weekly news program. What I don't understand is why the network didn't reach out to Kate Snow and/or Bill Weir. Both have a great sense of humor, a good rapport with one another and conduct very adequate interviews. Kate is politically savy, and was very visible during the election cycle. Bill has done interviews regarding health care, politics, and technology and is game for almost any sports challenge. Move them on up, weekend GMA is very lively.

I am not happy that Chris Cuomo is not with GMA! I do like George but Chris should have stayed, he made me laugh and I loved his personality. I hope they didn't ruin this long running morning news show.

When Charlie Gibson was on GMA, the tone was more of a news nature. When Charlie left, and Robin was added, the amount of pap increased dramatically. Diane and Robin became sob sisters. Every item that they reported on that had any element of emotion, the sob sisters commiserated and became empaths, taking on the woes of the world. And Diane had this inimitable style of scrunching up her face to really display her emotions. Robin adopted this hushed, almost whispering tone not unlike a funeral director soothing a bereaved family. The original format strayed too far. My wife and I started watching the Today show. The show has a lot of fluff pieces, but less emotional contortions.
Do I think that George S is the right choice for a co anchor? Maybe not, but maybe breaking up the sob sisters is not such a bad idea. It will interesting to see how Diane interprets the nightly news. Will her face get scrunched up after every news item?? Most news readers do not contort their faces into masks of empathy or shock. Time will tell.
