'Glee' soundtracks all over the charts

glee-soundtracks-290.jpgGleeks cannot get enough of the "Glee" soundtracks -- part I has been certified Gold in three countries and part II is well on its way.

"Glee, The Music: Volume 1" entered Billboard's Top 200 Album Chart at #4 when it was released on November 3. Five weeks later, it is being certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. Gold signifies the album has sold over 500,000 units. "Volume I" has also been certified Gold in Australia and Canada.

"Glee, The Music: Volume 2" was released Tuesday, Dec. 8 and is currently sitting at #1 on iTunes, #1 on Amazon and #4 on Barnes & Noble. Between the two soundtracks, the "Glee" cast has 15 singles in the Top 200 on iTunes. Individual singles from the show have sold over 3.4 million downloads since the debut episode.

Coming on the heels of "Glee's" highest ratings to date and an especially good showing in the 18-49 demo, we'd say FOX has a certified hit on its hands. We hope the lag between the fall finale and the return in April only fuels the fandom and doesn't hurt the show.

Saying that it is a "certified hit" is just ridiculous.

Glee can't even get 10 million viewers, which still would be just the average audience for FOX.

How is that a hit, except in FOX's PR releases, that Andrea apparently chose to echo without checking their veracity.

Sorry if I sound overly aggressive about it but I ma really sick and tired of reading completely false info on what is a hit and what isn't.

To wit, if Glee was such a hit, why hold it back until April? The answer: it is dragging FOX's averages down.

Glee is far from being a hit, no matter how many times FOX' PR says it is, and it's high time that journalists stop repeating blindly the company line!

It's a hit, because it does what every current Tv show has to do: it brings in money!!! That's the bottom line.

There's really nothing like it on television so I applaud FOX for airing it and sticking to it. I used to watch it but I'm not really the correct demographic but can see it's merits nonetheless. Some of the recordings are amazing 'Don't Stop' & 'Somebody To Love' possibly better than the original versions.

Rena why are you always hating on Glee? I have never seen someone so hell bent on trashing a tv show before...Did you get passed up for the lead in your glee club or something? Its kinda patheic

Oh and by the way...Glee is a hit the 18-49 demo is all anyone cares about total viewers is nothing compair to 18-49 and Glee has one of the highest rating in that demo...Also adding in the dvr+7 viewers and the itunes/hulu/fox.com viewers its well over 10mil viewers...So Rena please shut up

Rena, Glee is a hit. The overall viewers may be below average for Fox but thats irrelevant. Its all about how much money the show provides, which is plenty. Did you read the article? Its albums and singles are doing amazingly on the charts, it has enormous buzz, and tons of younger viewers, which is what advertisers care about the most, all making it an enormous cash cow for Fox. Looking merely at total viewers is very close minded and doesnt show the whole picture.

PLAIN AND SIMPLE!! Networks are waiting to air shows late this year because of the Olympics.

GLEE is also a hit because so many people are talking about it. At Thanksgiving dinner I was amazed that all age groups were not only aware of it but had seen it. The fact that NBC banned the cast from the Macy's Parade only added to its fame. This is all free PF for FOX.

Glee is a great show that no matter how old or how young you can relate to all the school drama and the music is classic love the show and for all the ones out there that dislike it don't watch it then save yourself some undo happyness that it might bring your life.

As tired as you are, Rena, for people not meeting your narrow-minded expectations of a 1980's view of the word "hit," WE are all tired of you spreading your trailer-trash sanctimony like some fat housewife who hasn't left the couch in a decade.

I'd say any show that can chart more hit singles than Beyonce in three months is going to make FOX very happy. Yes, your outdated, pre-Internet view of a network "hit" is being challenged, but times have changed.

So open your trailer door wide and perhaps learn a little about the U.S. in the 21st century. If you can get your fat *** off the couch, at least.
