George Stephanopoulos joins ABC's 'Good Morning America'

stephanopoulos-290-2.jpgAs previously reported on Zap2it, George Stephanopoulos will join ABC's "Good Morning America" as anchor according to Politico.com.

The news comes as no surprise to most industry watchers and the network is expected to make the official announcement on Thursday (Dec. 10).

Speculation of Stephanopoulos' impending move to "GMA" heated up once it was announced that Diane Sawyer would be departing the morning show to anchor ABC's evening's "World News" after Charlie Gibson stepped down.

The report also claims that Stephanopoulos could join his new morning colleagues -- Robin Roberts and newly assigned newsreader JuJu Chang -- as early as Monday (Dec. 14).

Stephanopoulos is expected to continue hosting Sunday's "This Week" in the near term, but will eventually give up those duties to focus solely on "GMA."

Chris Cuomo will be exiting "GMA" as first reported by New York Post. The newsreader is being replaced by the aforementioned Chang. Once Stephanopoulos was identified as frontrunner for Sawyer's vacant seat on the show it was became evident that Cuomo's future with "GMA" was unclear.

Speculation as to whether or not Cuomo would remain with "GMA" continued to run rampant in media circles this past weekend when conflicting reports about his resignation emerged.

ABC rep Jeffrey Schneider initially denied the report on Sunday (Dec. 7) to Mediabistro.com. "Nothing could be further from the truth," he said.

But then Tuesday (Dec. 8) it was confirmed that Cuomo would indeed be leaving the morning show.

Diane's Sawyer's finale "Good Morning America" broadcast will be Friday, Dec 11.

Goodbye GMA...Hello CBS' Early Show.

Diane Sawyer endorsed a fabulous book at missyjenkins.com on the paralyzed victim of a deadly school shooting. Sawyer is one of the best journalists around.

I don't understand why ABC would think that replacing half of the GMA team was the way to go.

I like George...... but NOT in the morning. I for one am disappointed, especially with Chris Cuomo's departure. He should have gotten the job after Diane leaves.

not sure i will continue to watch GMA...Chris was a bright start to my day, may switch full time to MSNBC and Joe Scarborough

I, too, thought Chris Cuomo would step up to co-host with Robin. Was very disappointed that he also is leaving GMA. Not much of a George fan ~ doesn't have the personality that Chris has...will be checking out Today & Early Show!

I am sorry to see Chris Cuomo leaving GMA. I was hoping to see Chis become co-anchor with Robin. Good luck Chris in your new position.

Please Chris stay with GMA. You and Diane are the reason I watch
I love Robin but, Chris seems to show a tender side to the news.

Good Luck Chris guess I will switch to Today Come Monday morning.

not a george fan. I will be watching less. really loved Diane and Robin together.
