FOX, Time Warner continue talks into new year

time-warner-fox-logo.jpgUPDATE 2: The New York Times and Deadline Hollywood report that talks were continuing Friday morning, though there's still no deal. The FOX affiliate in Los Angeles was still on the air at 12:30 p.m PT.

UPDATE:
As of 8:15 a.m. PT Friday, FOX stations were still on the air. Check back for more updates.

Time Warner Cable didn't pull the plug on FOX at midnight Thursday, but that doesn't mean everything's fine.

The two sides agreed to keep talking past midnight ET Thursday, after FOX's contract with Time Warner Cable expired, according to The New York Times. The continued talks meant that viewers in the eastern half of the country served by FOX-owned stations -- including those in New York, Chicago and Dallas-Fort Worth -- still were able to see those stations as the calendar turned to 2010.

News Corp., which owns FOX and several of the network's biggest local affiliates, wants higher subscriber fees from Time Warner for the right to transmit its signal on cable -- about a dollar per subscriber. Time Warner Cable has countered with an offer of about 30 cents per subscriber, and both sides have engaged in heated PR campaigns blaming the other for the impasse.

The extension of talks doesn't necessarily mean that a deal is imminent, but a source tells the Times that the extra time does indicate that talks have at least been somewhat productive.

Stay tuned.

Rats! And here I thought 2010 would be starting FauxNews Free in the two largest markets ... you know, like a breath of fresh air after they fixed the sewer leak but, alas, the sewer is still leaking out

If you don't like the Fox channels, don't watch them. Why should others who do have to go without?

I like Fox stations I am a Nascar fan and love to watch Speed I really hope they can solve this problem!!!

Fox News would stay on regardless - it's covered under a separate deal from the FOX stations, FX, etc.

Fox is being Just plain GREEDY. I'm pissed with them over their schedule changes which show their true intent. They don't care about the viewing public, they only care about the DOLLAR!

Give it up Time Warner.
Odumbo learned the hard way when you pick a fight with FOX ...FOX always wins.
Viva all FOX stations.

Canadians don't care. The Canadian networks broadcast the best of the Fox shows [along with the best of CBS, ABC, NBC, FX, AMC, CW, ....].

I'm not paying more for cable for a load of junk. The good Fox shows are on Hulu anyways! Pull the plug already. Get this over with so I can watch TV without the ridiculous Fox VS TWC commercials in every break.

I'd rather have the NFL Network.

Does my bill go down if Fox is dropped? Right!

While Time Warner Cable continues its carriage talks with Fox at this hour, a reminder that TWC also has a seperate carriage dispute with Scripps Networks over Home & Garden Television and Food Network. Like Fox, TWC has a brief extension to keep Scripps' channels on while trying to work out a deal.
