First 'Robin Hood' trailer: Russell Crowe draws blood

russell-crowe-robin-hood-trailer.jpgThis ain't your Kevin Costner's Prince of Thieves.

Russell Crowe has stepped into the greenery for Ridley Scott's "Robin Hood," and the first trailer promises a darker, somewhat more violent look at the legend.

The first trailer features lots of shots of armies clashing, with Robin (Crowe) seeming to come to a decision by the end and, of course, taking up the longbow. We don't see much that would indicate Robin's time in the Crusades, so we suspect the battles will be between King Richard's loyalists and those of the usurper Prince John. Robin Hood was famously a supporter of the king.

The film also stars Cate Blanchett as Maid Marian, Danny Huston as King Richard and William Hurt as the Earl of Pembroke.

(Ridley Scott + Russell Crowe) Gladiator-style action film = Box office gold

Looks like General Maximus has been teleported to a later time in far off Britain to fight for another idiot ruler. Crowe plays the gutsy hero well. I wonder if Mark Addy is any relation to the Robert Addy who played the Sheriff's #2 in the British TV series that starred Sean Connery's son?

I've just saw the trailer and I felt a bit dissapointed. Nothing like I expected, especially from the director of the Gladiator and actor Russel Crowe. Take a look for yourself: http://trailers-watch.com/ It's on the main page.

ALL TOO OLD FOR THIS TALE.

Crowe's MADE his fortune.

WHY is he wasting time on such uninspired retread slop
as this? ---ESP. in 2010
on the once again 'mysteriously overlooked' 60th Anniversary
of the epic, urgently relevant,
indeed, STILL unfolding
