'Conveyor Belt of Love': Really, ABC?

conveyorbelt1_290.jpgUPDATE: Dear lord, there's a trailer. See below.

Yes, really. ABC is airing a show called "Conveyor Belt of Love" on Jan. 4, right after the premiere of "The Bachelor."

And if you're wondering what a show called "Conveyor Belt of Love" would entail, well, the title succinctly and depressingly pretty well says it all. From the network's press release: "One by one ... 30 men are presented on the 'Conveyor Belt of Love' to ... five women and given 60 seconds to impress them. If a woman is interested in someone, that man will step aside and wait as the rest of the men go by."

The network also promises that the show, a one-off thing ABC is throwing up against FOX's broadcast of the Fiesta Bowl, is "hilarious and fast-paced" and will help the five women find "a true connection." Because machinery-assisted speed-dating is such a tried and true method of matchmaking.

So the way it works is, the women will watch the guys roll past and pick out someone who seems interesting. If another guy comes along who appeals to her more, a woman can swap her guy for the new one. If more than one woman picks the same man, he gets decide who wins.

At the end of the show, the five couples go on a date and the other 25 guys presumably begin a life of denying they were ever on a show called "Conveyor Belt of Love."

Tom Shelly and Endemol USA, who produced "Dating in the Dark" for ABC last summer, are also behind this show.

Looks like Leno will finish in 2nd in the timeslot on 1/4!

TNT's midseason show is "Men of a Certain Age". ABC responds w/ "CBOL". Are they taking their programming inspiration from old episodes of "Double Dare"? What's next, is "Funhouse" host JD Roth going to do a show where we watch overweight people work out on a treadmill for an hour? Oh wait. Sorry.

What's this reviewer talking about? IT'S A COMEDY. It looks funny. Don't be so serious! I'll be watching. Love a reality show that doesn't take itself so seriously.

Hmmm, crap "reality" show or boring bowl game (don't care who wins)... time to think outside the box -> hit the off switch... do something "real" (and wait for the next new episode of Castle... or is this the beginning of the end for another good show: Eli Stone, Pushing Daisies anyone?).

I saw this show today and it is hilarious. I recommend it to everyone!

“This is a spin on speed dating,” Shelly says, “and in speed dating you’ve got just a limited amount of time to sell yourself and what makes this more fun and even funny is that the power is completely in the women’s hands.
And all will happen in 60 seconds! More details: http://bit.ly/conveyor-belt-of-love-details

I think these shows are generally pretty cheesy and the premise gets old fast, but this one was the most entertaining hour i've seen on tv in a while. Very well done considering how lame the premise seems at first. I hope they make it a regular show...

couple of times i literally laughed out loud. I guess we'll see what happens with this show next week.

I watched this show thinking that it was going to be another horrible "reality" show. I laughed my you-know-what off. The women were diverse in both looks and what they were looking for. And the guys were average. (Which is what most guys out there are.) I would love to see more episodes of this show!

I also watched the first episode and I must say it was fun. Didn't get bored at all. Oh and there is a girl who likes anime. How awesome is that? :D
