'American Idol's Simon Cowell makes another push for U.S. 'X Factor'

simon-cowell-american-idol-320.jpg"American Idol" judge Simon Cowell really, really wants a U.S. version of his British show "The X Factor."

Talk has been heating up of late, including Cowell's partner on the U.K. version naming Las Vegas as the optimal "X Factor" setting.

"I think the show will go to America," Cowell told the BBC's Newsnight. "It has to go to America. There has to be an American version of the show. To not make 'The X Factor' in the biggest market in the world would be crazy."

Thing is, "The X Factor" is not -- despite its name -- the adventures of Wolverine and friends, but a competition to find amateur singers. Much like, you know, "American Idol."

So would FOX be willing to let Simon create what could become a drain on "Idol's" audience? Or does the network see this as a way to move the decreasing "Idol" watchers to a fresh new addiction?

i wish it would.. from youtube it looks much better than idol by focusing on more of the performance rather than just vocals

Just as long as it comes on in January like Idol does. I wouldn't want to have to wait till fall for my Simon fix.

@kyle: Focusing on performance versus vocals?Don't we already have too many acts that are long in the perfomance and short in the talent side? ie. Miley, Britney, Ashlee Simspon to name a few. Sure, they are successful, but is this a good thing? I don't think so imo. Granted, I haven't watched this show much, so I don't know how much it differs as a singing competition as AI, but I think that it wouldn't be that great of an idea as it would be going to the well too many times as there would be too many competition reality shows already...

'kara looks really ugly in the above pic' - obviously you must be wearing a blindfold. Kara's a much better judge than Paula was (Paula loved everyone even if they were terrible) and what's with the "lunch path" for Paula??

I'm all for them bringing the show here to America - but only if they keep Cheryl and Dannii on.
