'American Idol' poll: Should the show go on without Simon Cowell?

simon-cowell-american-idol-320-2.jpgWhat do you think, "American Idol" fans? Should the popular singing competition continue sans judge Simon Cowell? Vote now!

The New York Post has a piece with fans' input about Simon Cowell's possible departure from "American Idol" after the upcoming ninth season.

One fan tells the Post, "Frankly I couldn't stand Simon Cowell this past season ... his head was so big it was in the clouds ... I'm sure 'American Idol' will be able to fill his spot with no issues."

Rumors have been flying about Cowell's intentions once the ninth "Idol" champion is crowed at the end of May, 2010. So far there is no official word regarding his plans, though we do know he wants to launch a U.S. version of his popular British show "The X Factor" and that FOX wants more seasons of "Idol" whether he returns or not.

What do you guys think? Can 'American Idol" go on without Simon Cowell?

Someone said this on cable - I think it was Showbiz Tonight (can't remember for sure) - but essencially the comment was, "American Idol without Simon is just 'Star Search'."

I HATE Simon, I HATE American Idol but even I agree with the statement.

The show WILL go on with or without him until it dies in the ratings (people stop watching so it dies)... Dumb poll question.. because it means nothing...

it shouldn't even go on without paula! I won be watching anymore.

Screw Paula. She's an idiot. Without Simon, this show will fail.

Sooner or later, this train wreck of a show will be canceled and we won't have to hear any more about these fools. Just stop watching this trash.

Totally agree that American Idol without Simon would be Star Search. The show cannot and would not exist without him. Fox shouldn't even try to continue it if he should leave. They should mercifully pull the plug before it dies a painful death on its own. I wouldn't watch one millisecond of Idol minus Simon. He IS American Idol, and to try to keep it going without him is completely pointless.

Before saying that the show won't survive without Simon, first wait to see who his replacement will be. Its too premature to say the show will fail without him. I think most viewers watch the show to see and hear the conteststants -- not to hear Simon's witty but all too-often negative comments.

Remember, this is a viewer-driven singer elimination contest; not a showcase for any one particular judge. The real judges are the viewers who actively participate and vote for their favorite singers each week. I think Simon understands this which is probably why he knows the show must and will go on without him

It's bad enough that Paula is going to be gone (though that's not reason enough to make me stop watching, I LOVE Ellen!), but if Simon is gone too?? I don't know about that one. He IS half (if not most) of the reason I like to watch this show... Simon is awesome. The show just wouldn't be the same without him... I say they should end the show when he leaves. @Neilfan12

It's Simon's show. He's the best judge--sometimes cruel, but honest. That's why he's had a successful career.

MediaCurves.com conducted a study among 1,007 Americans asking who should replace Simon Cowell if he were to leave American Idol. Results found that the number one celebrity that respondents thought should replace Simon Cowell if he leaves the show was “America’s Got Talent” judge Piers Morgan. Sean “Diddy” Combs and Quincy Jones also ranked highly as potential “American Idol” judges.
