The investigation into "American Idol" runner-up Clay Aiken's hometown voter registration has been dropped.
North Carolina county officials voted Wednesday (Dec. 9) to end its inquiry after Aiken wrote a letter requesting his removal from their voting rolls, making the issue moot.
According to the Associated Press, North Carolina's election board had initially determined there was evidence indicating Aiken may have voted illegally in Wake County this fall.
The county's election board got wind of the alleged voter infraction when Aiken spoke to a local North Carolina newspaper about a school board election won by Republicans. Aiken told the media outlet that he was disappointed that so many "selfish idiots" ran and won seats on the school board.
The article, which included the singer's hometown, tipped off the GOP about the possibility he was voting in the wrong place.

Nobody cares about this creepy, CREEPY dude anymore. Zap2it, let this be the end of Clay Aiken coverage. This wasn't even worth posting, really.
I hate him because of his freakishly small teeth. It's like baby teeth stuck in an adults mouth. Doesn't he also seem like he'd molest a child one day? I'll put money on it. Any takers?
To ClayAikenHater:
You're a tool! No...scratch that...tools are useful. You're entitled to not like someone but the comment about molesting a child is simply ignorant! Maybe you should find something better to do than spread hate and ignorance on these boards.
Get a life!
Oh boo hoo. You gonna cry? You gonna squirt some tears? You big baby.
I wonder why Aiken thinks voter registration laws don't apply to him? That's nice that he 'considers' Raleigh his home. Mayve I'll vote at Disneyworld, since I 'consider ' that my home. Not that any of this really matters much since he doesn't know what he is talking about anyway. Should be interesting, though, if he ever tries to enroll his child in a Wake County school, despite not living there.
Hater, you're a douchebag! It's kinda sad actually...
I actually feel sorry for you...
Now bugger off!
Wow. I few hateful people here. Hating someone because you don't like his looks? Not a very nice person I suspect.
daffodil; Clay has grown up and lived most of his life in Wake County, and for your information he knows exactly what he is talking about. If some newspapers would bother to print all of it, it would be very clear. Also, the man (Mr, Pope)that suggested investigating Mr. Aikens voting (in retaliation for Clay calling attention to what they were doing),was found out to actually have a very close relative living and voting in different counties. Hypocrite!
Clay's intelligent and articulate response explains it all, including that only 6% bothered to go out and vote, and those elected by this huge 6% are trying to change everything that the school board had worked for years to accomplish. They added things to the agenda without notifying other members of the board, parents and teachers alike, even though it greatly affected their children. The media did not bother to get into those details of course.
Some one needs a fact checker. Clay Aiken did not talk to the media about this at all - his remarks were made on his fan club blog and someone SENT it to the media.
So maybe you can send it to the 'media' that Mr. Pope's own son is registered to vote under his mom and daddy's home that was sold two years ago.
Daddy's own son should be investigated.
Even a high school paper wouln't call this 'news'. Most of what shows up here is stale anyway. We all know the stuff you post before you post it. We read it too!
