'American Idol' Adam Lambert on 'The View': 'My dreidel spins the other way'

adam-lambert-the-view-290.jpg"American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert appeared on Thursday's "The View," where he talked about the American Music Awards and his work with Donors Choose, then gave an excellent performance of "Whataya Want From Me."

The headline may be a bit of a non-sequitur, but when Joy Behar joked that Adam Lambert is just a good Jewish boy, Adam Lambert responded, "My dreidel spins the other way." It cracked up us, the audience and the ladies of "The View." Heh heh.

In addressing the American Music Awards controversy, Lambert said that he's not a babysitter. It's not his job to monitor what children watch on TV, even if they were his fans during "American Idol." He said, "It's not a TV reality contest anymore, a singing competition. It's my career."

He does admit to getting carried away. "It wasn't meant to be an announcement of, 'This is the way I'm going to be all the time.'" But he does agree with the "View" ladies that publicity is publicity.

The interviewers do give Lambert a chance to briefly plug his work with Donors Choose, which is an organization that raises money for public schools arts programs. He says he wants to help kids with their expression, whether that be through music, drama, art, photography, whatever. Donors Choose official website can be found here.

Finally, Lambert performed "Whataya Want From Me" from his "For Your Entertainment" album. First off, it's nice to see him perform something other than the eponymous song (though he did do "Want from Me" on "The Early Show" too). Secondly, it was a really good performance. It's a subdued song that shows off the fact that Lambert really can sing. That gets lost sometimes when he's doing his vocal acrobatics all the time.

What do you guys think? Good interview? Good performance?

Whichever way his dreidel spins, Adam is a total "gimel"!!!

The title of the song is "Whatya Want From me" not "Want From Me". Thanks for a great article!

eww he is gross

His CD is filled w potential hit singles. His flawless singing on AI ('Feeling Good""Ring of Fire""Mad World" :If I Can't Have You ""Whole Lotta Love") gets heard on the CD,even on the electro, not juet the ballads, but all they talk is his sexual orientation in most sites. He is a whole person, thanks for seeing that. He is an amazing artist.

Adam is intriguing, and gutsy honest and no deception about who he is-he lives his truth, and allows others to live theirs. Tiger could take a lesson in gutsy honesty from Adam instead of being a coward,a hypocrite,a betrayer.

talent talent. maybe too strong a head for mainstream but his honesty and candid way is very sexy. the truth can be liberation. ehem.. tiger.

Ooops! Linda is frustrated cos she can`t have Adam. LOLL

Adam is a true talent! He is honest, up front about his way of living. He has a beautiful, mesmerizing voice.
You go Adam!

WOW! ADAM is simply gorgeous. He's a real charmer and can disarm even Elizabeth.

I just saw Adam Lambert on the View stating that taking care of children is the parents' responsibility and not his. Since his performance at the AMA's I no longer can sit with my 13 year old and watch the AMA's which has been a tradition in our family and we look forward to it every year. I actually liked his performance (when I watched it later). I'm an adult and it was an adult performance! I was not happy when I had to sit thru that with my son. If they had warned us parents that DO take responsibility for our kids I would have made a choice NOT to watch his performance with my son. Adam, you DO have a responsibility to let us as parents make that choice for our own kids. I didn't at the time even hear what you were singing - just shocked !!! So, you are not all about your music like you state ! Grow up! Your music career is not about shock value and how you spin the other way. You have a great voice USE IT and do be concerned about the kids of this world you live in as most of them will pay your bills for the rest of your life!
