Watch the 'Real World: DC' trailer
One thing stands out in the trailer for the newest edition of "The Real World": No one's making a drunken idiot of him- or herself. The long-running MTV series begins its 23rd installment on Dec. 30 with a season set in Washington. Maybe it's the setting (although there are plenty of drunk louts in D.C.), or maybe the show is trying to reflect the heightened political engagement among a lot of young adults, but the show seems to be playing down the debauchery.
The earnest tone recalls the show's first few seasons, when situations were less contrived and the participants seemed like real people more than caricatures. Whether that's how the season actually plays out remains to be seen, but it's kind of refreshing to see a group of characters who don't just look like they're auditioning for a spot in the next "Real World Road Rules Challenge."
What do you think? Does the (possible) change in tone appeal to you?

FINALLY. it's like MTV finally listened to the complaints and are trying to make the show actually interesting again. I am so over the hot tub threesomes and the show about NOTHING but laying around and going to bars at night, and then coming home and getting it on....every stinkin' episode.
Wow, if what this trailer leads us to believe turns out to be true, I might actually start watching the Real World again! We need more casts like the show use to be...ie. REAL. New Orleans was prob my fav cast ever cause it had such a mix of people that really might never have met otherwise, but also who were interesting, liked to have fun and were very funny at times, in addition to having real drama in their lives and with each other. Here's hoping this show finally gets back oin track! Ever since Las Vegas it has been soooo down hill...
Hi all, are you looking for NSA fun or serious relationship with REAL cougars. Or maybe find a sugarmomma who can pay all your needs?

Keep it real please!~~
really?
y'all think after twenty years of MTV's greatest soap opera, fueled by alcoholubrication, RW is gonna be all wholesome and character driven...?
C'MON, SON!
I completely agree with Katie and Brandy. This would be a welcome change. I hope it ends up being the case. I haven't watched The Real World, or anything on MTV in years. I'm tired of the drunken idiots. There's more to life than boozing it up every night.
The first few seasons of the show were the only ones worth watching - the cast actually had things like lives & jobs. It quickly degenerated into a drunken mess - nothing but sniping at each other & seeing who could get how many in the hot tub or shower fastest. It would be great if they got back to their "roots," but I'll believe it when I see it.
