'V': The invasion begins with big ratings
The aliens of "V" didn't completely take over the TV world Tuesday night, but they established a pretty strong base. The ABC series debuted to better than 14 million viewers -- more than all but one new show this season -- and delivered the best adults 18-49 numbers for any series premiere this fall.
"V" finished with 14.3 million viewers and a 5.2 rating in the 18-49 demo. Both numbers improved slightly on the fast national ratings from the morning (13.9 million, 5.0), and the 18-49 rating was the best of the night across all of TV. The audience grew in the second half-hour, which is generally an encouraging sign for a show.
The premiere also gave ABC its best adults 18-49 rating in the timeslot in three years, since the final performances of "Dancing with the Stars'" fall 2006 season, and the best 8 p.m. drama debut on any network since "Lost" in 2004.
Despite the big tune-in for the "V" premiere, CBS' "NCIS" remained the night's most-watched show with 20.2 million viewers (up from 19.4 million in the fast nationals). CBS also led the rest of the night in viewers, as "NCIS: LA" (15.3 million viewers) edged the "Dancing with the Stars" results show (15.05 million) and "The Good Wife" (12.7 million) trounced "The Forgotten" (7.3 million).
It will be interesting to see the seven-day DVR numbers for both "V" and "NCIS" when they're released a little later in November. "NCIS" has been adding about 2 million viewers per week this season, and as the most-watched shows also tend to be the ones that gain the most seven-day DVR viewers, it wouldn't surprise me to see "V" tack on a couple million more either.

V; yuk!
the show was very interesting
All those who are excited about 14 million viewers please mark my words when i say a year from now NCIS would have more than 20 million viewers and V would have gone down to 10 million suffering the same fate as lost and heroes......
Don't see where V has to go but into the bin with other touchy-feely sci-fi romances. As long as they don't get beat by colds or water...but really, who cares?
I did enjoy seeing the Firefly people together, but I don't like their parts.
Also, I kind of fell asleep while trying to watch it on DVR. It was that exciting.
where is meow!
Well I enjoyed the V re-do and am looking forward to more. (Catch the 4400 reference in the warehouse address? Liked that.) Looked great in HD.
Glad the premiere got good numbers, and hope the audience sticks with the show. But I understand ABC is only planning to air 4 eps this month after which the show goes on 'indefinite hiatus'. Anyone else hear this?
If it's true, I think it's a bad move by the network. Remember Life On Mars built up some good numbers, then ABC put the show on hiatus ... and the audience never came back. Hope that's not the case here!
kiran?? you are probably right 10 million sounds about right for V most people (like yourself) can't follow a story longer than their avg crap. For us 10 million others bring it on Visitors!!!!!!!!
bob go back to sleep
NCIS? Better get my rocking chair and shawl.
I'm lured in. Enjoyed the first episode, and I'm looking forward to the next. Glad to see it did so well in the ratings.
