'Twilight: New Moon' makes box office history

"Twilight: New Moon" has surpassed "The Dark Knight" to have the most successful opening day at the box office ever, earning $72.7 million.It hardly comes as a surprise, considering "New Moon" took in a record-setting $26 million at its midnight showings Thursday night. However, the $72 million on opening day absolutely smashed the previous record of $67 million, held by "The Dark Knight."
It will be interesting to see what "New Moon" does to the three-day weekend numbers of "The Dark Knight," which earned $158.4 million its first box office weekend. Critics have not been kind to "New Moon," but we don't think it will effect the numbers too much.
"New Moon" has doubled the $36 million opening day take for "Twilight" from a year ago. If this trend continues, "Breaking Dawn" will open to almost $290 million in one day.

I smell a new Titanic, with girls going back to watch the movie again and again, even if the movie (like Titanic) is not really all that good. Oh, well, enjoy it if you will. As with the first movie, I thought the book was better, but the movies are not aimed at me.
It helps with the media hype.

obviously, the book will always be better, but this movie was a VERY good true to the book depiction. I was very happy with the way it was directed and written! Much better than Twilight even!
It was a VERY good movie. Obviously the books will always be better in any book to movie situation, but they were very true to the books. Can't wait for the other two. It was 1000 times better than Twilight, and I loved Twilight. I'm not the target audience either, being outside the teenage/tween age group. Still a Young Adult, but I love them just as much as the screaming fangirls haha.

Went to the midnight showing. It was worth the 6 hour wait. EVERYBODY in the movie was awesome. As soon as the movie was over, I wanted to see it again. GO TEAM EDWARD!
