TV ratings: World Series, NFL rule Sunday for FOX

arod_worldseries_290.jpgFast National ratings for Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009

The NFL bled into primetime Sunday and helped push Game 4 of World Series to its biggest audience so far this year.

The full night of live sports gave FOX an audience of 21.1 million viewers and a 12.5 rating/20 share in households. That was more than double the viewers for second-place ABC (10.4 million, 6.5/10). CBS (9.9 million, 6.3/10) came in third. With "Sunday Night Football" taking the night off, NBC was way off its typical Sunday, mustering only 4.1 million viewers and a 2.5/4.

FOX also rolled to a win among adults 18-49 with a 7.4 rating. ABC finished second in the advertisers' favorite demo with a 3.4, followed by CBS at 2.2. NBC came in at 1.4.

Not much insight to be gained today, except that when it's L.A. vs. N.Y., the World Series still gets decent (but not overly impressive) ratings.

Three Rivers on CBS looks again like the weak point on what has become a weak night for them.

Um, it's N.Y. vs. Philadelphia in the World Series. Two East Coast teams. If it were the Yankees vs. L.A. or anyone on the West Coast, the ratings would be higher.

@Mookey. Thanks for the correction. :) For some reason, I was time traveling back to when the Angels were still in. :)

About Friday:

I understand Rick doesn't work Saturdays and his usual replacement doesn't really do more than repeat the PR hype she is fed, but can't they have someone just give the raw numbers? How long can that take?

Like so:

CBS:
Ghost Whisperer (8.28 million),

Medium (7.69 million)

Numb3rs (7.74 million)

NBC:

Law & Order (7.00 million)

Dateline (7.95 million)

The Jay Leno Show (5.14 million)

ABC

Supernanny (4.84 million)

Ugly Betty (4.54 million)

20/20 (6.94 million)

Fox

House (Repeat) (3.76 million)

CW

Smallville (2.60 million)

America’s Next Top Model (Repeat) (1.27 million)

The night is up for grabs, but the also-rans have decided that it's not worth trying and are sabotaging the night the way they sabotaged Saturdays (incidentally Disney Channel does incredibly well that night - why would ABC not want those viewers is beyond me).

Bringing back Ugly Betty was a big mistake for ABC and is a waste of the little money that have left.

And for what it's worth, this is my last real post for now. :)

The Phillies... I knew that... I rally did! ;)

People get tired of novelty shows like Ugly Betty,Ally McBeal, and Pushing Daisies to name a few.

LOVE THREE RIVERS MY FAVORITE NEW SHOW

I have a question for you wizard. What is a "domane"? I know what a domain is, but I am unfamiliar with a "domane".

"Domane" is how stupid people spell "domain," of course. I'm surprised it doesn't spell its name "Mieaeou."

Now for my detailed analysis of Sundays ratings, since I feel Zap2it doesn’t do a good job at it. Everyone feel free to direct all your questions to me and I will answer them though out the day.

Fox hit a ratings grand slum on this first Sunday in November care of Game 4 of The World Series. Second-place ABC was down, but not out, with its regularly scheduled combination of America’s Funniest Home Videos, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters. Third in both categories was CBS, which has sprung a leak at 9 p.m., followed by a depressed, football-less NBC.

In an all sports night, Fox opened the evening with an approximate half-hour prime-time football overrun at a mammoth 30.57 million viewers and an 11.2 rating/30 share, followed by post game The OT at an also first-place 18.24 million viewers and a 6.5/17 in the demo at 7:30 p.m. Game four of The Baseball World Series averaged an estimated 20.02 million viewers and a 6.9/17 among adults 18-49 from 8-11 p.m., with the dominant half-hour breakdown as follows:

Baseball World Series (Fox)
8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 20.87 million, A18-49: 6.9/17
8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 23.61 million, A18-49: 7.9/19
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 19.68 million, A18-49: 6.8/16
9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 19.82 million, A18-49: 6.9/16
10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 19.19 million, A18-49: 6.9/17
10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 16.97 million, A18-49: 6.2/17

Results for any live sporting event are, of course, approximate.

Over at ABC, its regularly scheduled rotation performed as follows:

ABC - Sunday
7:00 p.m. – America’s Funniest Home Videos
Viewers: 7.84 million (#3), A18-49: 2.0/ 6 (#3)

8:00 p.m. – Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
Viewers: 10.75 million (#3), A18-49: 3.4/ 9 (#2)

9:00 p.m. – Desperate Housewives
Viewers: 13.80 million (#2), A18-49: 5.0/12 (#2)

10:00 p.m. – Brothers &n Sisters
Viewers: 9.37 million (#2), A18-49: 3.3/ 9 (#2)

Considering the competition was The World Series from 8 p.m. and beyond, this is another good Sunday for NBC. CBS, meanwhile, remained solid from 7-9 p.m., with 9-11 p.m. in need of fixing. Take a look:

CBS - Sunday
7:00 p.m. – 60 Minutes
Viewers: 12.32 million (#2), A18-49: 2.1/ 6 (#2)

8:00 p.m. – The Amazing Race
Viewers: 11.10 million (#2), A18-49: 3.2/ 8 (#3)

9:00 p.m. – Three Rivers
Viewers: 7.71 million (#3), A18-49: 1.7/ 4 (#4)

10:00 p.m. – Cold Case
Viewers: 8.64 million (#3), A18-49: 1.6/ 4 (#4)

NBC opened with Football Night in America (Viewers: #4, 2.57 million; A18-49: #4, 0.8/ 2), followed by repeat theatrical National Treasure at a last-place 4.59 million viewers and a 1.7/ 4 among adults 18-49 from 8-11

Ugly Betty is a great show and it has been very funny this season. Try watching it before you get all nasty RENA.
