ABC was flop city last night, even Leno beat ABC
Comment #1 - Even Leno beat ABC? Like Leno is a bad show? That was just stupid to say.
And who says things like "flop city" anymore. Wow.
@R.J.: Leno's show hasn't exactly set the ratings world on fire. In fact, his show can be counted on to bring up the rear every day at 10pm, which is something NBC should be very concerned about (as well as the rest of their schedule).
What was more striking to me was the really awful Office re-run numbers, although they may be partly explained by the fact the show was not in its usual time.
@Woof: I rather enjoyed "Flop City", although I think this may be a good new name for Universal City, home of NBC. ;)
Speaking (in another thread) of elevating the debate, I am reposting this as I think it may elicit some interesting comments by the Alan59, AaronR and OCGirls of the world :) :
I was wondering if there isn't another reason why the networks are now holding on to their losers a lot more than they used to do (and a lot more than they should to maintain viewership levels).
To wit, the networks are now allowed to own the shows they broadcast. That means that they partake, not just in the upside, but also in the downside of the deficit.
Typically, the maximum point of losses is the third year (after which syndicated sales may start to kick in and foreign sales start taking a bite out of the deficit).
Knowing that, executives looking for the CYA factor of pretending they had hits by renewing shows they shouldn't, quickly get to the end of the second season where it's easy to argue that in two more seasons, you'll get to a better financial result.
I'm not sure if I was entirely clear, but I think it definitely explains why a show like Heroes, which should have been quickly closed after year 2 or 3, is still around even though it is now helping drag NBC to ever lower levels.
@ R.J. Johnson
I never said Leno was a bad show, i watch it every night, but it is usually in last place every night of the week so it really was not a stupid thing to say, but saying it was stupid to say was stupid. Yes i said flop city, and you said it in your second post and the person who posted after you said it, so it would appear people say it.
dont you people have anything better to do than watch stupid leno every night, poor things, what losers.
i wish there was something better to do than watch Leno, but sadly there are only 3 networks to choose from, CBS, NBC and Fox, because ABC is A.lways B.unch of C.rap
Oh my starts, WOOF, you are SO funny. Seriously. Get a life. This blog is supposed to be about responding to ratings, not your sad desire to be the anti-MEOW.
You are a B.itch Waxine.
