'Trauma' still has a pulse; NBC orders more episodes

cliffcurtis2_trauma_290.jpgReports of the death of NBC's "Trauma" are, if not greatly exaggerated, at least a little premature.

The network has reversed its earlier position on the show -- an NBC rep said late last month that the show would be done after its initial 13-episode order -- and decided to keep the paramedic drama on the air a little longer. The network has asked for three more episodes of the show, according to The Hollywood Reporter and others.

Ratings for the pricy show -- which is heavy on location shooting and big set pieces -- have been nothing to crow about. The show draws a shade under 6.5 million viewers a week (DVR viewing included) and a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic. (The numbers have, at least, been pretty consistent.)

"Trauma" will have aired 10 episodes by the end of 2009, which will leave six (three from the original order and the three new ones) for later in the season. There's a pretty good chance the show will stay on Monday nights, but it likely wouldn't return until spring since "Chuck" and "Heroes" are booked for that night starting in January.

"Heroes," however, will likely finish its season before the Winter Olympics in mid-February. The alien-invasion drama "Day One" was slated to fill that spot starting in March, but since NBC cut its order to just four hours, the network will have some space to fill come March.

Such excellent news. I am really enjoying this show. Finally, NBC did something good.

Great news! It's better than Mercy & Three Rivers!

NBC has absolutely no idea what they are doing and this is reflected in their ratings... they do not have ANY shows that regularly draw 10 million viewers or more. They should be in crisis mode but they don't seem to care. Instead of firing the man who is almost solely responsible for this mess, they are instead keeping him in charge when they merge with Comcast. Way to go, NBC!

Awesome news! This show is getting better and better each episode. It has really grown on my wife and I. Please give it a try and keep it on the air.

@Chad: I could not agree more. When I read that Comcast was planning to keep Jeff Zucker in charge, I could not help but wonder what gives them the idea that he's going to finally pick a hit show for them...

NBC is apparently so broke that they'd rather extend their bombs than try new shows.

Of course, someone should tell them that making a new show is only marginally more expensive (because of the added promotional budget) but has humongous upside(as long as they get someone different to pick the new shows).

I like this show. But I don't think it is going to save this flailing network. They need someone new in charge

Not a bad show and considering what's on NBC outside of Thursday nights, it's a downright masterpiece. If this ratings stinker still has life, that doesn't say much for NBC's midseason replacements. This network is doomed.

NBC what the hell are u doing???@!!!!!!!!

The network needs to bring back to life some former hit shows that CBS cancelled--like The Unit and Without A Trace. Put those two shows back to back on Monday night and you will have some solid ratings. What do you think?

Best show ever! GREAT choice, NBC. An even better one would be to order three more seasons! I watched E.R. from day one, cried when it was over, and now say Trauma beats it by far.
