'The Bachelor' takes flight in January

jacob_thebachelorette_s5_290.jpgNote to everyone appearing on "The Bachelor" this season: Get your skin care regime in order, 'cause you'll be airing in HD come January.

ABC says the show will begin its 14th cycle on Monday, Jan. 4, with a two-hour premiere. This season will also be the first broadcast in high definition.

The new edition is subtitled "On the Wings of Love," which refers not to the Jeffrey Osborne song but to the fact that Bachelor Jake Pavelka -- who was rejected on "The Bachelorette" last season -- is a pilot.

The ABC press release about the show is a fun read, if you're into hyperbole, so we thought we'd share. Here's how the network is presenting Pavelka:

"Ever since Jake, 31, shared a magical one-on-one date with Bachelorette Jillian Harris to see Martina McBride, millions of women have had their 'Top Gun' fantasies about him. A fan favorite for his reputation as an honest guy with an open heart -- not to mention his good looks -- viewers were stunned when Jillian rejected Jake right before the hometown dates on last season's 'The Bachelorette.' But women were drawn to him even more when Jake returned of his own accord in the next episode to protect Jillian from men who were not there for the right reasons. Jake -- who already knew Jillian would not take him back -- freely shared and showed his emotions.

"Jake's fairytale-like experience falling for Jillian made him confident that he can find the love of his life on 'The Bachelor.' Now it's his time. Jake knows himself well enough to know that he's not made to live alone. He just needs to find the right woman -- his best friend and soulmate -- and that's whom he'll marry. Searching for a woman who is intelligent, confident, energetic and spontaneous, he admits that he can't wait for fatherhood."

So that's what ABC says. What about you? Will Jake make you tune in?

I would really like to get a Reid update. I liked him.

Nice guys don't finish last...but boring guys do. I guess I'll have to wait til the next edition to watch it again.

this young man impressed me a great deal with his honesty, sensitivity, and character. It's hard to find men who have character and are still fun. It's even harder to find a sensitive man and one that will listen and most women I know want a soul mate, a friend as well as a lover. I believe Jake will be all of that and more. He will make some young woman a great husband.

These guys sound so good the way the show builds them up--then the guys like Mesnick and Baldwin think that they are God's gift to women and that the viewers will pay anything to see them/read about them/donate money to them in the name of their charities etc. They just are not willing to give up their celebrity status or give up their 15 minutes of fame. I wonder how much longer before Mesnick figures out that the public doesn't really want to read his book, they don't think an unemployed guy who lives off child support from his ex is the best person to schedule as a motivational speaker, or even that a person who shares custody with Hilary of their son really isn't considered a single dad; or an unemployed guy isn't still called an account executive. If this show is to continue, they need a better way of weeding out the actors, celebrity wannabees and get real people happy with their real life jobs and not wanting to use the show as a stepping stone to keep in the news.

I can't wait to see Jake! He had better not turn into a jerk. I'm sure he won't. Reid is also a great guy although his resemblance to "Chandler Bing" is uncanny!
