Taylor Swift knocks it out of the park on 'SNL'

No one really knew what to expect of Taylor Swift hosting "Saturday Night Live" (Nov.6).

Let's be honest, the country singer is known for her tales of teen woes put to song, as opposed to comedy, so that's what the performer relied on in her opening monologue, appropriately titled "Monologue Song (La La La)":

Swift strummed the guitar while singing

"I like writing songs about douchebags who cheat on me but I'm not gonna say that in my monologue."

And "You might think I'd bring up Joe Jonas, that guy who broke up with me on the phone, but I'm not gonna mention him in my monologue. Hey Joe, I'm doing real well. Tonight, I'm hosting SNL but I'm not gonna brag about that in my monologue. La la la. Ha ha ha. La la la."

Swift even went so far as to answer the question if she's dating a "werewolf" aka "Twilight: New Moon"'s Taylor Lautner. To that statement, she silently mouthed "Hi, Taylor" and blew Lautner a kiss and winked at the camera.

And perhaps the biggest, most obvious elephant in the room, was Kanye West. Swift jokingly sang the Chicago performer was not there and the upstaging debacle is over and done.  And just as a precaution, she has security guarding the stage.

"You might think I might say/something bad about Kanye/and how he ran up on the stage and ruined my VMA monolgue/but there's nothing more to say/because everything's OK/I've got security lining the stage."

Check it out...

Ms. Swift, your cool factor just went up a few more notches. And then you threw in the Kate Gosselin spoof on "The View," complete with her famous hairdo, that "looks all business in the front and rock concert in the back, per Kristen Wiig doing her best Elisabeth Hasselbeck impersonation.

So far so good...keep the momentum going. Wait, is that a "Twilight" parody? It is...and it's called "Firelight." Instead of vamps, it's a posse of Frankensteins or "Franks." And Swift is playing Stella in love with a teen Frank Phillip who runs screaming from fire and has difficulty kissing due to his tendency to choke the object of his affection. And all of it is causing frustration for lovestruck mummy Lomax (but can't tell if that's Lautner under the bandages).

So the episode is over and while Amy Poehler stopped by for the "Weekend Update," (which is always a good thing) Swift owned the night, ending on a high note of spoofing Shakira.

Right on Taylor.

Now that Swift has shown that teens can do justice to the show, what other young star should "SNL" book for double-duty?

She did great, she was funny and very natural. The opening monologue was hilarious.

Taylor, you are great! You are a talented singer who can tell jokes and act. You are funny.

it was excellent! i didn'y expect much of her, but she really do it great!

Her Shakira spoof was hysterical! And spot on to boot! Overall, it was a pretty weak episode, but it had some strong moments. Anything that makes fun of Glenn "Douchebag" Beck is a good thing. The Firelight thing was also funny. And I'm always down for Kristen Wiig doing Penelope.

eh her monologue was weak because it sounded like one of her real songs!

She was awesome!

I thought she did great, despite some of the writing being junk. Her monologue and her shakira impression were the best. Overall, one of the best SNLs in a long time.

Good acting skills but too bad she can't sing live! Her voice was paper-thin and the percussions just swallowed her already weak voice (except for the bouts of what sounded like shouting). Who would have thought Lady Gaga sounded better live than America's darling?

The Taylor Swift SNL episode was HORRIBLE. PUH-LEASE!!!!

mildly funny at best, honestly! Taylor Swift as Kate Gosselin? WTF funny idea horrible acting by all moderately interested actors remaining on SNL cast, come on now!
