'So You Think You Can Dance's' Nigel Lythgoe on Nathan: Engage your brain!
Ah, Nigel Lythgoe.
One of the nice things about the "So You Think You Can Dance" judges -- Nigel in particular -- is they say what they think.
And this week, they sent contemporary dancer Victor Smalley home, but there was some debate as to whether Nathan Trasoras should've gone instead?
Why?
Well, Nigel says that while Nathan is a tremendous dancer, the kid simply needs to start engaging his brain.
He feels Victor's growth in the competition should've guaranteed him a spot in the Top 10 over Nathan. But judge Adam Shankman disagreed, saying now that we're in the finals and Nathan will be paired with someone new, he could begin to up his game. Adam said Nathan and Mollee's youth and similar style could've been the thing holding them back. Or not. Next week, we'll find out.
As for Ms. Mary Murphy, she's pumped about the newly-crowned season 6 Top 10 and tells us about her dream pairings, hoping to see married couple Ashleigh and Ryan Di Lello snag a ballroom routine together and contemporary dancers Ellenore and Jakob team up to dance their own style.
There's also talk about Legacy's tears, Twitter and turning the voting rights over to America next Tuesday.
Plus, eliminees Victor and Karen Hauer tell us what amazing dancers they are!

Nigel's a prick. For whatever reason, he simply does not like Nathan. Nathan has been saddled with an immature (and relatively talentless) partner for 5 weeks, while Victor (a very good dancer) has been bottom 3 with THREE different partners, this means the viewers are not connecting with him.
If SYTYCD was actualy looking for the best dancers, then they would drop the two lowest vote getters, male or female, not one of each every week. Keep Victor and Nathan, dump Karen and Mollee. Challenge the choreographers to come up with routines for 2 guys or 2 girls. The guys are soooo much better than the girls this season. The final four should be all guys.
Nigel is a good man. He has a right to his opinions.

I study voice and so when I watch a show like American Idol, I can tell when they're faking it. Worse - they always get away with it. I also dance, so I was not going to turn away an opportunity to watch a dancing American Idol. Way better than the original. You just can't fake it. The dancers are either good or they're bad - no getting around it. The result? An absolutely amazing hour of dances that remind you to love the arts. There's hip hop and ballroom the entire spectrum is covered. I personally can't wait for a second season and would recommend this show to anyone who has ever tapped their foot while listening to music. It's just that good.
Doesn't matter if you are good or great. When the judges push someone out, they will push out the great dancer, because the good dancer "has potential we haven't seen yet". No excuse for this. If you are sending home dancers due to audience voting...send the bottom two home every week, not let the judges send home whomever they want,,,,,

Mr. Lythgoe, the Director, should have a sitdown with Nigel, the Judge, and review his comments following Ryan and Ashleigh's long awaited dance. They should continue the review until Nigel understands how inane and demeaning his comments were. If he cannot understand, then he should talk to Mary and Adam who clearly understood the moment and made appropriate comments.
