oprahwinfrey_mct_290.jpgOprah Winfrey's media empire may drastically change within the next two years.

"The Oprah Winfrey Show" may be moving off network to cable as of 2011, according to a report by Deadline Hollywood.

A rep for Harpo Productions tells Zap2it: "She has not made a decision yet. As she has previously stated, she'll make an announcement before the end of the year."

The story by Nikke Finke claims that the Oprah Winfrey Network, owned by Discovery Communications, was supposed to launch as a joint venture between Winfrey and Discovery, but was delayed. Now it seems that Discovery is giving her an ultimatum: move the show off syndication and on to OWN or lose the network altogether.

The supposed move could happen as early as 2011, and Winfrey is reportedly meeting with programming execs to get the ball rolling on the move. OWN will replace Discovery Health, which can be seen in 70 million homes.

In an update, Finke also says that CBS Television Distribution, which syndicates "Oprah," was blindsided by her story, but there was no other definitive statement since nothing has been made official .

If this is true, what do you think? Will Oprah's viewers stay loyal and follow her to cable?

What a stupid question. Oprah could set up shop on Mercury (the hot side), and there would be thousands of fools willing to be burned to a crisp just to see their daily dose of O. Most people have lives and would prefer not to go off-planet, but there are enough who would.

So, yes, they'll follow her to cable, even if it's on a public-access channel based somewhere in the middle of the Arctic Ocean.

Oh, yeah, and Zap2It's new platform still sucks.

Her viewers are sheep - she could walk off a cliff and they would mindlessly follow her.

Her show stinks - I can't believe the amount of fools that watch it and buy her silly magazine and then run out to buy the horrible books she recommends.

I wish her show would go off the air waves entirely - I think her 5 minutes of fame expired long ago.

I seldom watch her so it is no big deal for me. If it were to a premium cable station that was not on my basic cable list, then NO, I would not be watching.

Can't stand this woman and wherever she goes, her idiotic viewers will follow.

I thinhk Oprah should not accept ultimatiums from Discovery, she herself has way more power in the world then the Discovery entire line of channels.

She should think about the entire world that will be affected by this sudden change and make sure she seeks that inner voice that she always seeks before finalizing this decision.

Love her, love the show and what it contributes to lives of many each and every day.

May God continue to be with her and watch over her as she run on to see what the end will be.

Be careful Oprah there are many in the media world that would love to take your place and have what you have.

Know this you are still needed and wanted by many even the haters that don't realize it yet.

With any new business you have to start it up let it run a while before you flip off the switch on your old gig.

Most don't want to admit it but there is a God like spirit within Oprah. That's why she/we have to deal with comments like the ones from Jackie and Lorie

I agree with AHugeFan, Oprah thinks she is God.

Are we supposed to care cuz I sure don't. I totally agree with Andy Oprah does think she's God. I shudder every time I think of how she basically stalks President Obama!

Oprah's ratings have been falling the past few years, sometimes in double digits, according to Finke's article.

Combine that with the fact that her proposed new network has no spot in the cable lineup, and this could spell trouble.

If the tabloid in the newstand was right, Dr. Phil might not be around much longer either.

I think she should make that move. Cable will give her more freedom.

Stay tune for the Oprah and Gayle Show. (won't be shown in Maine though)
