Oprah's 'Favorite Things' episode axed?
Say it ain't so, O! Oprah Winfrey's popular "Favorite Things" annual episode may not be happening after all, reports The Huffington Post.
What?!? Look, we know there's no Santa Claus (sorry kiddie Zap2it readers), but wasn't Oprah the Santa Claus for adults with big dreams of kicking the dust off their small town shoes and making it to Chicago for a taping of the "Oprah" show?
"We have no plans this season for a 'Favorite Things,'" a Harpo employee reportedly told HuffPo.
That's all. No explanation. We're still in disbelief and have reached out to a Harpo rep for comment ourselves.
Oprah's "Favorite Things" episode was an annual treat for unsuspecting audience members who would arrive for a taping and then leave with gifts upon gifts ranging from cashmere sweaters and cupcakes to refrigerators and camcorders. These were supposedly all of Winfrey's favorite products that she thought would make perfect holiday gifts.
Look, we're very sad that Oprah's show won't return after Sept. 9, 2011 (one of the 12 signs of the TV Apocalypse apparently), but shouldn't that be all the more reason to have two amazing final "Favorite Things" episodes?
We'll make it easy for her. The first item for her 2009 "Favorite Things" should be the Slanket/Snuggie. That's affordable and stylish.

To hell with Oprah!
To hell with Oprah!
I think this is probably a way to cover up something that has to do with the Favorite Things show. Sometimes TV shows put things in top-secret mode - this could be one of those cases.
It might have to do with the economy. Perhaps Oprah doesn't want to promote conspicuous consumption when most of America can't afford to pay their bills. That's why she's Oprah and you aren't.
I agree with Chad...
Wouldn't be very cool of her to rub in everyone's face what she can afford and most of America can't.
Sounds classy on her part to scale back in the midst of a country in a recession.
Oh please. She's not buying for herself. She's gift giving! And it helps the economy, if she truly pays for it with her money. They could be donated by the companies who make the items. She needs to stick with the show. It's a staple.

Oprah has a talent that many would love to have and that is connecting to everyone! She does this by listening to her inner voice and truely caring about people. I loved her favorite things list because I know that she had everything thoroughly checked out before adding it to the list, that is why it grew so quickly!
