Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio gets 'Law & Order: CI' badge
"Law & Order: Criminal Intent" has hired a new captain: Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio.Mastrantonio will join the USA series for its ninth season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She'll be the first female captain for the Major Case Squad, following characters played by Jamey Sheridan and Eric Bogosian.
The casting of Mastrantonio also marks the end of a pretty major shakeup of the show that saw original stars Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe departing along with Bogosian and Julianne Nicholson. Jeff Goldblum, who joined the show this year as Detective Zach Nichols, will be the full-time lead of the show, and Saffron Burrows was recently cast as his new partner, replacing Nicholson.
The part will be Mastrantonio's first regular role on a TV series. The Oscar nominee (for "The Color of Money") did have a recurring part on "Without a Trace" a few seasons back. Her other credits include "The Perfect Storm," "Scarface," "The Abyss" and most recently, the 2008 CBS movie "The Russell Girl."

WOW, she sure looks ruff. Scary.
So the castration of CI continues by USA network. Check out the official CI forum on USAnetwork.com to see how many won't be showing up to watch the new season. "Characters (un)welcome".
please like any one watches this crap for it to be castrated... LOL
I wonder why there is this constant turnover on CI. I get D'Onofrio. He always seemed on the verge of leaving. I don't get everyone else though.
I will say that I like Mastrantonio and I have really enjoyed Goldblum -- something I didn't expect.
I will miss Erbe the most. Then Nicholson. I am glad that a talented mature actress got a role.
over the hill...get real. MOre like at the top of her game!
I think Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio could be very good as the new captain, she's certainly got the acting chops to play against Jeff Goldblum and Saffron Burrows. I was never a huge D'Onofrio fan, so I won't mind his departure as much as some folks. While it's true that the cast roster has been a little chaotic the last few years, I think the new blood over time has been what's kept the L&O mothership viable, and I think the lack of new faces has caused SVU to stagnate.
No matter who is on the show, I will continue to watch it. I've watched every LOCI episode since the first episode.
I have always wanted to know if the sarcastic banter from Eames and Gorin was preplaned or off the cuff.
In one scene, Gorin walks in the room and goes to a table and says "Crystal Meth" and Eames is practically in the room and says "No Thanks" Gorin falls to the floor laughing.
If that is the case the banter between them must have been something else

Loved Vincent D'Onofrio; I am very sad he is leaving; thoughgt he was excellent; Jeff Goldblum is surprisingly good.
