Jedward meets Calvin Harris' pineapple on 'X-Factor'
Jedward demonstrated they could sing "Under Pressure" in more ways than one. Dublin teenagers John and Edward Grimes sang Queen's "Under Pressure" mashed up with Vanilla Ice's "Ice, Ice, Baby" on Britain's "The X-Factor" Saturday and received an odd surprise when Scottish musician Calvin Harris appeared on stage with a pineapple on his head.
Harris put his arm around one of the Jedwards, held a pineapple to his head and then pointed at his bottom. He then ran offstage before he was booted from the studio.
It's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, especially with the editing in this grainy video, but you can see Harris' arm around John's (or is it Edward's) shoulder at the 2:14 mark and then a figure run off behind the dancers a few seconds after that.
Check out the odd performance and even odder guest:
Following the invasion, Harris took to Twitter and posted: "Was just thrown out of X Factor for jumping onstage during Jedward with a pineapple on my head."
A little later he posted: "At the end of the day, I had a pineapple on my head. Sorry if I caused anyone embarrassment. Ps. I love Jedward."
He then posted a link to a picture of pineapple.
Oh, those cheeky Brits.
Harris had been scheduled to be interviewed on "Xtra Factor," a companion TV show to "X-Factor" that includes celebrity guests and behind-the-scenes footage, but wasn't asked to stay in the studio to tape it after his little stunt. A Facebook fan page has cropped up specifically in honor of Harris' pineapple.
As for Jedward, they appeared to have come back from facing elimination the previous week, and the maturity they exhibited by ignoring Harris' antics seems to have earned them a bit of respect, even from judge Simon Cowell."Jedward" became a No. 1 trending topic on Twitter Sunday also, confusing some "Twilight" fans who thought it was a fantasy bromance pairing of Jacob and Edward.
