Twitter'It's Only' Danny Gokey's first single -- so listen
Danny Gokey's first single has hit the radio -- and it's not quite the big belter you might expect.The No. 3 finisher on "American Idol" last season got his first airplay on a station in his hometown of Milwaukee Friday morning with the single "It's Only." The song was written by Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood of Lady Antebellum and produced by Mark Bright, who's worked with Carrie Underwood.
As you might expect with that crew, the song has a country vibe to it. There are also hints of inspirational music -- also no surprise, given Gokey's background as a church music director. What's largely missing, though, is the big voice that made Gokey a favorite on "Idol." Only in the last 30 seconds or so does he really rev up.
The song will be available for download in December; Gokey's first album is due in March. But take a listen, courtesy of this audio-only YouTube clip:

I'm not a Gokey fan at all, but this suits him and will really suit his fan base.

Wow! I was pleasantly surprised. Dare I say that Danny’s single – amongst those idols who have released so far – is the most representative who of he is as an artist? The first thing I thought after I heard it was that it’s Danny - the raspy voice, the soaring parts, the phrasing, the lyrics. I think it’s a song tailor-made for him, which is why I think this single actually works. I have never considered myself a hardcore Danny fan or a Country fan, but this is good work right here. Out of all the songs that have been released from this year’s idols, I actually think this is the best. Wow, who would have thought?

I really loved this song for Danny. I don't have any issues with not hearing the vocal strengths Danny had in his AI performances.
This song has enough depth and range as it progresses to build that Danny can bring his distinctive vocal qualities and power into it.
It also obviously has subject-matter content that he really relates to, and can throw his heart and soul into. Good job for Danny, hope he is very successful with it.
This is a good filler song on a album not a great lead off single.He was in Nashville he should have got Carrie to help him pick a song he could belt and do a Duet with him for his Album.a lot of Carrie Fans would buy a Duet and he could add a song with it.nashville is a Good place for Danny he could sing Contemporary Country that has a Pop influence.Taylor swift does.
Danny accomplished what he needed to do with the debut single - that is, keep the fans happy but also reach out to new fans in Country Music. And singing a song by highly respected Country Music writers Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood of Lady Antebellum is a huge honor for a new artist. "It's Only" works because Danny stayed trued to who is as an artist. This is the kind of music he enjoys doing. “My Wish†was a huge crowd pleasure on the tour.
Danny has set the bar very high with his debut song. "It's Only" is the perfect blend of stunning, distinctive vocals and a beautiful message that comes from the heart. Danny has delivered exactly what he promised. His album can't be released soon enough!
I LUV IT! I'm like the #1 Gokey fan. I just LUV him. His Song is amazing. I could listen to it over and over again! Actually i'm listening to it right now while i am writting this! You can tell that his song comes from the heart. I can't wait till' his his album comes out! I can't wait any longer!
