David Hasselhoff was a presenter at the Nov. 5 MTV Europe Music Awards and he was slightly inebriated. Video below.The 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards were held in Berlin, Germany, so naturally David Hasselhoff was tapped as a presenter because, well, you know the rest.
What followed was a drunken freedom battle-cry-thing that you should just watch for yourself.
We love how he assures us that he (David Hasselhoff, of "Baywatch" and "Knight Rider" fame) is not responsible for the Berlin wall coming down. Thanks for clearing that up, David. I guess I owe my high school History teacher $20.
Oh, The Hoff. Do you think we could get him to appear on "America's Got Talent" drunk? It sure would make recapping that show a lot more fun.

This is ridiculous. I come from Germany and there is nothing fascinating about David Hasselhoff anymore. That ended by the time Baywatch ended if not even earlier..
I really don't know why they invited him. Perhaps because there is this rumor over there in America that Germans love him. Perhaps he even believes this himself, but like you we just see that poor drunk guy who can't even eat a hamburger properly. Why does media always have to make it worse by pushing him into the spotlight...
Yes Catherine, in America its considered common knowledge that Hasselhoff is a German icon. No sarcasm intended. We totally believe that :).
I've read many times that David Hasselhoff is very much loved in Germany. But it is simply not true. He had lots of media coverage in the 80s and 90s because he has german relatives and he had one or two successful songs in the charts. That's all. Nobody cares for him anymore.

Hasselhoff is liked by many, however, he has a severe drinking problem. He has to get serious about treatment,or keep on until it kills him---and it surely will

Even if it was true that all Germans loved David Hasselhoff, there would be absolutely no good reason to be upset or ashamed because some Americans thought that.
If you think about it, you would realize that.
Furthermore, not all Americans dislike him. Some actually like David Hasselhoff.
For the record, I neither like nor dislike him and I am not German descended.
Then they'd love that drunken douchebag Kanye West.
Didn't wanna sound upset or anything. It's really just not true that Germans love him. Perhaps some people are still reminded of the German reunion when they hear "Looking for Freedom". But the whole hype around David Hasselhoff was in the 80s and 90s like Matt said. "Knight Rider" and "Baywatch" were very successful but that was a loooong time ago.. ;)
