FOX's 'Fringe' set to take seven week hiatus (Updated)

joshuajackson.jpgJoshua Jackson should have some extra time to enjoy the winter Olympics in his hometown of Vancouver early next year.

As first reported by futoncritic.com, sources confirm to Zap2it that FOX is putting "Fringe" -- which shoots in Vancouver and stars Jackson, John Noble and Anna Torv -- on a seven week hiatus.

The schedule has not yet been finalized but the network is expected to air its new midseason drama "Past Life" in "Fringe"'s Thursday timeslot starting Feb. 11.

"Fringe" would then return on Apr. 1 to finish out the second season with its seven remaining episodes.

Any thoughts on the plan?

Hmmm, can we say Jericho? Long hiatuses, for whatever reason, are generally a stupid idea. Kinda like intentional walks in baseball...the benefits rarely outweigh the consequences.

Oh, yeah, and Zap2It's new platform still sucks.

Wow, could Fox actually be more idiotic? First, they put one of television's few truly interesting shows up against GRAY'S ANATOMY and CSI, and now they want to put it on hiatus for most of the spring?

FRINGE is one of the few shows on television that actually makes you THINK, and it's one of the few shows that I actually look forward to watching each week.

I'm guessing Fox won't be messing with "Are You Smarter Than a Fox Executive" or one of their other brainless "reality" shows.

Congrats on lifting this directly from The Futon Critic without crediting. Awesome job Korbi!

I second what David said. fox is truely clueless!!

FOX gave Fringe every opportunity to succeed. They pampered it so much in the first season, giving it the post-House slot even though it had lackluster series premiere numbers. If that wasn't enough they later gave it the post-American Idol slot. If Fringe couldn't develop a loyal audience after so much exposure, it's time to start questioning the show's writers rather than FOX.

I thought they shot in Toronto?

No?

Fringe is one of the few shows I watch on FOX. I expect the Fringe audience to have switched to other shows when it returns, resulting in cancellation. Oh well, I watch too much TV anyway.+

Hiatus = Stupid Idea. It seems FOX is of two philosophies when it comes to their shows. Either they split up the season with ridiculously long breaks (Fringe, Prison Break before it) condemning them to possible cancellation, OR they run the season without a break (24, American Idol). Make up your minds, FOX! Better yet, why not just air your shows with a similar format to the other major networks.

The Pilot episode shot in Toronto. First season shot in NY until the tax incentives were pulled and they moved to Vancouver for the second season.

I really like Fringe. I think it's smart show, there is such a great chemistry with the actors. Fox just doesn't have a clue.

How do you get your audience, that likes shows like Fringe, off of their computer to watch the show so you get the number?

Well Joshua Jackson will be busy next spring filming UFO anyways!
